Use markers to design this interactive pinball machine's layout (Tomorrow Daily 344)
[MUSIC]
Greetings, citizens of the internet.
Welcome to Tomorrow Daily.
The best [UNKNOWN] talk show in the known universe.
I'm Ashley Esqueda.
And I'm Jeff Cannata.
Are you ready for some headlines?
Yes.
Check out this pinball machine, that actually lets you draw your own playfield.
What?
Traditional DIY digital pinball cabinets use screen venulators that flip paper a little bit weirder.
You take a piece of paper And you use markers of different colors to sketch your own pinball field.
The machine scans your drawing and then you can play what you designed.
Each color is an element, walls, bumps, speed, and points, and what they do depends on the shape of the element.
You can custom order one, but it's probably pretty expensive, since there's no official price available anywhere on the site.
But if this thing is even remotely affordable I want it, that is awesome looking.
The technology's really cool like I said.
I mean I think if you really wanted to get into pin ball machines you could do an emulator which is cool but yeah pretty rad.
Little construction set.
I also love the 1980s theme of that video kind of the best.
When you're a researcher at Cern Your spare time might include things like building a tiny cosmic ray detector, just like these CERN researchers did.
Cosmic pie is the name of the project and the team hopes it will be quote, the world's largest open source distributed cosmic ray telescope, unquote.
They wanna create a small device you can buy, or build on your own And it would collect data to create a large kind of observatory for analysts.
Grouping up detectors could point to where initial cosmic rays come from, giving scientists and researchers more information about the origins of the phenomenon.
It looks like they plan to launch a Kickstarter later this year with a fully functional Cosmic Pi costing around 500 bucks.
Do I need to know about cosmic rays.
Am I, can I become the Fantastic Four?
Well, cosmic rays have been hitting you every, thousands of them have been hitting you every second of your life, so.
Am I gonna be a Human Torch?
If it hasn't happened yet, Jeff, I don't think it's gonna happen.
I'm sorry.
Gah.
I'm so sorry.
Well, here's hoping.
I think this is kinda cool.
In fact, I kinda feel like this should be our deep discussion topic, because Just the idea of cosmic rays, and what that means, and what it is.
What it is, and-
I think is worth more discussion.
I think it's also worth discussing crowd source data.
Inexpensive crowd source data, and the [UNKNOWN] has some interesting things to say about why they were doing this.
Also, I wanna talk more about the Fantastic Four.
We can do that fine, we can totally do that.
If you guys want to talk about the Fantastic Four, or any of the topics we have covered on the show this week, just use the #HEYTV.
Yeah just shout at us over twitter, let us know what you think about some of these stories.
We'll incorporate your comments into our deep discussion on Thursday.
And with that being said it's time to check out our phonetographer of the day.
Todays phonetographer is Yianni, I hope I pronounced that correctly, who took this on the iPhone 6S Plus.
Yianni writes, Hey Ashley and Jeff.
My name is Yianni.
This photo was taken on my new iPhone 6S Plus of the Twin Towers memorial pool in New York City.
I give you full permission for use of the photo Keep up the good work TD crew.
Hey, it's one of our themed photographers I'm so excited.
April theme.
Monuments, landmarks, and points of interest.
I love the symmetry of this picture.
It's gorgeous.
It is really well composed.
Very, very cool.
Hey, Please, you know, we always tell you when you wanna be our [UNKNOWN] of the day.
And you do.
And you do, you can always send your phonetography to Tomorrow@CNET.com.
That's right, you got it, you got it.
I saw you I saw you really worry that you were gonna forget it, but you didn't.
You guys can send in your phonetography, tell us a story about it, give us permission to use it on the show.
And also let us know what device you took it with.
And the thing I was gonna add there, which we don't say often enough, you've said it a few times but
Tell us how to pronounce your name.
I don't wanna butcher your name when I say it and I think I may have done it this time.
Some people do send in pronunciation, but I think Yani, I think that's right.
I hope it's correct.
But, we wanna be correct so just let us know.
Help us come correct, you guys, help us.
That is it for the show today.
We'll be back tomorrow with our deep dog episode.
Yeah, fun.
Got a lot of good stuff happening.
We've got Sebastian Terry.
Gonna come talk to us about his project 100 Things.
Man, so cool, so inspiring.
Amazing stuff, but until then.
Be good humans.
See you guys next time, bye.
