CES 2022: Most impressive tech

Tech
Speaker 1: BMW had a color changing car. Kohler had a smart ceiling Forset and this robot is absolutely planning to take over the world. The pandemic might have put a dampen on CES this year, but it certainly hasn't stopped the biggest tech show in the world from delivering on some very cool and kind weird tech products. Here's all the tech that wowed us at CES 2022. Speaker 1: [00:00:30] First of all, let's get this out of the way. You can probably see that I didn't go to Vegas this year and I wasn't alone. CES went ahead despite the threat of another COVID wave, but a bunch of brands pulled out at the last minute from Amazon and Google to Microsoft and Panasonic that made for a much quieter show this year, but we still did see a lot of cool new tech at the show. So [00:01:00] let's start with the pretty stuff. CES has always been a big show for home entertainment and with a lot of us trying to stay entertained at home these days, then the new TVs at CES were a big part of the show. If you're looking for a new O led TV this year than CS resident TV whisperer, David Kasey says the LG C two OED is your best bet. Speaker 1: He says, this is probably one of the best high end TVs at CES. That won't actually cost you [00:01:30] a fortune. As a bonus. The C2 is also gonna be available in a 42 inch screen size, which is perfect for gamers or for people with a spare room who really want to impress their guests. But if you want to go big, then LG also announced the ultra bright G two OED, which tops out at 97 inches, the biggest OED ever. Well, when it comes to OED, LG had some competition this year, early in the show we heard about Samsung's new quantum dot [00:02:00] OED panel. Samsung didn't technically announce the TV, but that's okay because Sony announced a new TV using QD OED technology, the a 95 K we don't have pricing on this one yet, but with lots of flagship features, including a very nifty remote finder, you could be spending as much as five grand for a 65 inch model. Speaker 1: If that's out of your price range, then Samsung's freestyle projector might be one for you. It's a $900 portable streaming [00:02:30] device that can project Netflix on your ceiling or on the side of your camper van. It was debuted at the Samsung keynote by the future generation lab, Samsung's gen Z product incubator. How do you do fellow kids? Speaking of things that young people, like she said in an attempt to not sound a million years old, our last entertainment pick from CES was PlayStation VR two. Now we already knew about this, but we got a few more details about the VR platform, including the new PS [00:03:00] VR, two sense controllers and a sneak peek at an exclusive game horizon call of the mountain. Now, all we need is a PS five to actually play it on. Now from consoles to laptops, the standout of the show had to be the Dell X PS 13. Speaker 1: Plus my colleague Dan Ackerman got on with a laptop and says, it's the biggest visual jump we've seen in the XPS. For some time, there are some really cool features, like an edge to edge keyboard and a capacitive touch row, which [00:03:30] Dan says is a more subtle take on something like the apple touch bar. But Hey, I am a huge fan of the touch bar. So I'm kind of here for it. If you want something even fancier from the laptop world than a shout out to the Asus Zen book, 17 fold, we've only seen this in an Asus reveal video, but it looks pretty sexy. A massive 17 inch folding O led display that can be paired with a Bluetooth keyboard or can be folded like a clamp shell laptop with a keyboard on green, [00:04:00] no prices on this one yet, but Asus says it's gonna be out in about mid 20, 22 next up mobile devices. Speaker 1: Now CES hasn't traditionally been a big phone show. That's normally left to mobile world Congress, which trail CES about a month behind. But while MWC is still set to go ahead in late February, we're still in the middle of the Pando. So who knows what it will look like? And maybe some brands are thinking the same thing. So Samsung, for [00:04:30] example, launched its galaxy S 21 Fe at CES that Fe stands for fan edition, starting at $700 and available from January 11th. This one is for P people who want high end Android 12 features without the price tag, but a word of warning. We are expecting the galaxy S 22 to launch soon. So it might be worth waiting if you need an upgrade. If battery life is a big one for you, then we also saw more details on the one plus 10 pro. This [00:05:00] one is launching after CES, but we now know that it's gonna have a 5,000 Milant battery and support for crazy fast, 80 wat charging. Speaker 1: We also confirm the rumors about a triple rear camera array and a 32 megapixel front camera. For those all important selfies and a final mention here on wearables for those trying to kick off venue's resolutions Garmin's venue two plus got a mic and a speaker at CES, plus a whopping nine days of battery life. My colleague and wearable's [00:05:30] life coach Lexi cavi, reckons that this one is going to give the apple, watch a run for its money. Oh, and if you're more of a speed runner than a marathon runner, then check out razor and fossils CoLab the limit edition gen six. Now you can wear RGB on your wrist in the automotive world. The most eye popping pick of the show was BMW's color changing IX prototype. Now this is called flow technology and it uses a special wrap to bring different color pigments [00:06:00] to the surface of the car via electrical stimulation. Speaker 1: Essentially it's the same technology as E Inc. There's no word yet on whether this will actually come to market if at all, but it's a very cool concept. Now, something you can buy soon, GM threw down the Golet it's CES with the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV going into production in 2023 GM estimates that this EV will have a 400 mile range. The race between the Silverado and the Ford. F-150 [00:06:30] just got interesting. And finally, auto smarts. Weren't limited to just the road this year, John Deere unveiled a self-driving tractor that you can control with a phone. We got to see this one last year out in the field, quite literally. And it was really impressive. This one is definitely gonna blow up on farm Twitter. All right, inside the home, we have a few standout smart home devices we saw at CES in the kind of zany CA degree. Speaker 1: This ceiling Forset from Kohler will [00:07:00] let you live your top chef fantasies, assuming that you have plumbing in the ceiling and $6,000 to spend from ceilings to floors. We saw the robo rock S seven max V ultra. Now that sounds like a mad max sequel, but it's actually a robot robot that can vacuum carpets and mop floors and automatically detect the difference between each. So you don't end up mopping your shag. Oh, and it also has a built in camera. So you can watch live zoom by a couple of inches off the ground. [00:07:30] All right. Finally, because I know you have been waiting for this CES, brought us some truly weird and wonderful tech like this Peloton on steroids, dubbed the virtual ride from LG display. And then there was L G's TV throne, sorry, media chair. Because when you are that rich, quite frankly, you shouldn't have to share the remote control. Speaker 1: If you wanna live at your bane fantasies, razor upgraded last year's viral, no pun intended face mask. [00:08:00] The $200 razor Zia pro the new face mask finally gets a voice amp inside. So people can't actually hear you, but with weak magnets and dim interior lighting, there are still a few issues. So don't hold your breath on this one. And finally, here it is my pick of the show, the bonkers totally wild, probably going to stand over you in the future and watch you while you sleep technology of CES, the AICA [00:08:30] humanoid robot from engineered arts. Now you probably saw AICA go viral last year. Well, I had the chance to interview the robot and I have to say it was eerie and amazing all at the same time, I was kind of sad. I didn't actually get to shake hands with the robot in person, but I'm also kind of glad that I didn't enter its visual recognition database. When the robot apocalypse comes in the future. I don't want AICA waving over at me like an old friend. [00:09:00] All right. So what's your pick of the show? Is it the chameleon Beamer, the TV throne, the humanoid best friends slash robot overlord. Let me know in the comments and for plenty more coverage on all this tech and what for you in the year ahead, stay tuned to seeing it. I don't know if you want a better Bain impression. This is essentially how I do it. I was born in the dark molded by it.
