Buzz Report unravels Android

>> Molly: Hi, I'm Molly Wood and welcome to the Buzz Report.
This week, the Google phone hits the streets, I think.
I don't entirely understand.
But first, the gadget of the week.
The gadget of the week is the GE Cell Fusion.
This is a cordless phone.
Now, don't laugh; phones are cool.
This is a cordless phone that lets you connect to a Bluetooth cell phone so that you can use it with either your landline or your cell phone connection.
Hello?
All the convenience and stability of a landline with the free long distance calling of a cell phone.
Plus, you could hook it up to your computer and add calendar entries, contacts and even ringtones.
You know, I am glad to see that important technology breakthroughs are still happening in the cordless phone world.
'Cause yeah, I'm sure a flying car would be great someday, teenie-tiny little nano-tube radios are super awesome, but you know what I actually use everyday?
The phone, dude.
The phone.
And now for the news.
Google finally this week announced the news we've all been waiting for: the Gphone.
Except they're calling it Android.
I got a little confused by the whole thing, so I asked our smartphones editor, Bonnie Cha, to come on the show and explain the whole thing.
^M00:01:07
So Bonnie...
>> Bonnie: Yes.
>> Molly: Did you bring the phone?
>> Bonnie: What phone?
>> Molly: The Gphone!
>> Bonnie: There is no Gphone.
What they announced is Android, which is the mobile operating system that they're going to open up to developers to, you know, create software and applications for it, new smartphones, and lots of them, so.
>> Molly: So what is the phone going to look like?
>> Bonnie: I'm not sure.
There's endless possibilities.
>> Molly: Is it going to be called the Android?
>> Bonnie: No.
Android is the mobile operating system, remember?
>> Molly: Do you know how much the phone is going to cost?
>> Bonnie: No, I don't know.
There's no Gphone.
>> Molly: So the Gphone: coming soon to a store near you.
>> Bonnie: No.

>> Molly: Okay, my friends, you've been waiting all week to see our young and cheerful interns turned into ruthless fighting machines.
This week, the New York crew fights back in the great intern beef of 2007.
You may recall that last week our San Francisco interns launched an only slightly provoked attack on New York intern, Mark.
Well, Mark's not takin' this lyin' down.
>> Mark can't dance.
Can't sing, can't bowl, can't talk.
>> Bad Guitar Hero player.
>> Ooh...
>> What about Hulk?
>> Wilson: Hey, Mark?
>> Mark: Hey, what's up, Wilson?
Can I get you another beer?
>> Wilson: Ah, yeah, that's going to have to wait.
Have you heard?
The S.F. interns are talkin' total smack about you.
>> Mark: No way.
Andrea and Catherine [assumed spelling]?
They seem like such sweet girls.
>> Wilson: Yeah, I think some of the things they are saying are just totally wrong.
And, matter of fact, I think they're the opposite.
>> Mark: Like, what kinds of things are they saying?
>> Wilson: They said you sucked at Guitar Hero.
>> Mark: Well, I mean, I'm okay.

>> Wilson: They said you couldn't dance [background music]
>> Mark: Man.
>> Wilson: And what about your secret handshake?
>> Hey, Mark!
^M00:02:57
[hand smacks and voices greeting]
^M00:03:03
>> Wilson: And like, you're always there when anybody needs you.
>> A-choo!
>> Mark: ...bless you.
You need a tissue?
>> Yes, please.
^M00:03:11
>> Wilson: And didn't you take gold at the Atlanta Olympic Games?
>> Mark: Pff!
That was like 10 years ago.

>> Wilson: And aren't you running for Congress?
[background music] No.
I know how we're gonna squash this whole beef.
[ phone rings ]
>> Hello?
Yeah.
They're sayin' what about him?
Alright, I know how to fix this.

^M00:03:41
What's up, guys?
Hey, I got here as fast as I could, because this has gone on way too long.
Wilson.
Mark, since you've got such a great name, we've decided to promote you.
You are now Mark, the Senior Head Assistant Intern to the Executive Producer's Fifth Assistant's Page of New York Regional Video Sales.
Don't let me down.
^M00:04:02
>> Molly: Oh, oh, really?
We'll see about this.
Think some promotions might have to be happening back on the west coast too.
Also, I'm not gonna lie; I think I have a little crush on Mark the intern.
I'm a traitor!
I'm Molly Wood and this has been the Buzz Report.
Thanks for watching.
