Being internet savvy with sassy Will Sasso (Tomorrow Daily 299)

On today's show we're talking about that guy that spent forty eight hours in virtual reality, the falconry of robotic falconry that you can find in the sky shooting [inaudible] summoning [inaudible]. And we've got a special guest joining us you know him from Mad Tv and Shameless and also from very funny Vine videos Phil Basso is going to be here. This is usually where I would spit out a lemon. To be like Will Sasso but I don't have a lemon. Yeah. So this is Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet. Welcome to Tomorrow Daily. The best detox show in the known universe. You're about to get hit with about 40 ish minutes. of delightful deep dive. Yeah we're gonna talk about some of those headlines that you saw us talk about all week long in our shorter episodes, and we also have this awesome guest coming. I'm so excited. And some other segments at the end of the show that'll be fun too. Yeah, so why are we wasting anymore of your time? Let's talk about those headlines. [MUSIC] All right, guy spends 48 hours in virtual reality. We need to break this down, because logistically,- Boy, do we ever. So, there's two things to talk about. The pure logistics of being in VR for 48 hours. That's true. And then there's the like, what does it do to you? What does it do to you? Yeah, this is an interesting story. If you did not catch it earlier this week, this gentleman in the pink onesie wearing the VR headset over here. Which by the way, the only way you get into a pink onesie is if somebody, if you're in a VR headset and you don't know that you're getting into. You don't know. A pink onesie. Yeah, of course not. They're like this is blue. Yeah, so he was in virtual reality for two entire days. Without sleeping. He was in, I don't know, what are we calling it, the Matrix? He didn't sleep? No, without sleeping. Just sleeping for- He experienced VR for 48 hours straight, which even if you just stay awake for 48 hours straight, that's hard enough. But at the end of the day, what in the world? What's this guy thinking? Well I think as we're entering the new VR future, we wanna push the limits and see what it actually does to the human body. I think it's that he's an astronaut of VR. He's a VRstronaut. VRstronaut? And he's like a test pilot testing VR. I like it. To see if he comes out of this and feels Like he can't reenter the real world. I wonder if he had like a sea legs problem? Like once you take off the, because I, having experienced occulus [UNKNOWN] there is a moment right after you take the headset off- and it's very brief, it's a couple seconds- where you just re-get your bearings. And I can't imagine how long that period of time would be if you wore a headset -- and it's for what a ten minute demo? Yeah. I can't imagine what it would be like To deal with that in a 48 hour sense where you a, haven't slept so your brain is already playing all kinds of tricks on you yeah because what is it? If you stay up for more than 36 hours you can start to hallucinate yeah and then on top of that having It's been exposed to virtual reality constantly [CROSSTALK]. Was he in only one virtual reality environment the entire time, a constant? Or was it changing? No. See, that's the big thing. So if we watch some of the B roll again, there was another person in a pink onesie inside the room with him, and it's a woman, and She was actually the virtual ready game master. So she's down there, she's on the left on the couch. So she did like a bunch of ten minute demos for 48 hours. She was kind of putting together these environments she had sort of designed. And the game science center had sort of put this all together as an art performance piece. Right. But she was the game master. Like she put together all of the different Any outfit. Experience it, I can only hope there was a committee that chose those. [LAUGH] That's the only art show aspect of it is the pink onesies. Pink onesies? No, I think that kind of for me is the downside of this experiment, because I think what I want to have happen when I hear of somebody spending 48 straight hours in VR is a different reality that stays constant for the entire period of time to see what it's like to be in a reality that is not your own for this period of time. To have it keep switching up I feel like the variety sort of betrays the experiment. Yeah keeps the mind going kind of. I agree it sort of betrays the experiment in that It's not one persistent world that you're being exposed to constantly for two days.. -Right. But we did get some that I thought was interesting. Spike Tiger,on Twitter, wrote in to us and said I hope V-R man was censored during the virtual bathroom use. Yeah, that brings up that second point that I was making. The logistics. Because, Maybe fast it. Maybe he did a fast, it could be that, this guy is apparently pretty well known as a performance artist. Well know as a non pooper Yeah I guess- He has a very, his reputation precedes him. [LAUGH] He doesnt need that- It doesn't. to go to the bathroom. or doesn't. [LAUGH] Yeah. No one says oh that guy. All he does is use the toilet. Yeah. Like, no I guess not. Yeah, no. I don't know, I don't know, I don't know what the logistics of that are. I'm sorry- I may have- I wish I could tell you. I'm just, had somebody who's worn VR headsets and the Vive, you know, now has a front-facing camera so that could You know, help you out. But if you don't have the front facing camera, just sort of manipulating things and using stuff and making, cleaning up the area it would be, I think problematic. Maybe if a game master created a virtual bathroom that looks exactly like the real bathroom he had to use, I don't know. There's so many questions I still have about this Even after reading about it I I kind of call shenanigans on this whole thing. I'm sure we're gonna to see actual studies that are measured. Yeah. A little more scientific than Scientific than this pink pajama party. It isn't exactly science. Listen, it did look like a really fun pink pajama party. On that note let's talk about robotic falconry. Yeah, maybe the best name for anything ever. I think so. I mean [UNKNOWN] can be [UNKNOWN] the name of my new emo band. Hi. Your first album Squaw. Yeah. Is pretty Squawkinet. It's just like [NOISE] It'll be perfect. Squawkinet. I like that even better. I love this story so much. So Michigan Tech if you missed it. They have a drone that literally suits a net at a rogue drone and takes it out of the sky. Look at that! Look at how cool that is! And it carries it away, Gotcha! because obviously you don't want to just shoot a net at a drone and have it fall to the ground because it could hit somebody, or, you know, and seriously injure Maim and or kill them, which would be bad. Yeah. But okay so let's discuss, to me the interesting part of this story is the ramifications of anti drone technology in the sky as drones become more prevalent. Obviously there are going to be people who three D print their very own firing mechanism. Right. That we're gonna steal my Amazon packages right out of the sky. Exactly that and also at what point? I mean, we joke about our drones will blot out the Sun, but if we have it's that sort of story where the guy has the mouse problem so he gets a bunch of cats. Right, now he has a cat problem. Now he has a cat problem, now he has Get a bunch of dogs, at what point do we draw the line and say too much is too much? Too many drones are in the sky, we got to stop this. There's always a bigger fish, you know? There's the drone that eats the net shooting drone And then it's just, it's drone on drone crime needs to stop. Yeah exactly. We're not even to a point where drones are legal in the sky, in terms of anything other then personal use, and we're already finding ways to shoot them down. [LAUGH] Well you know that's the thing, if we're really talking about delivering Products to people using autonomous drones and it's already this easy to just capture them? I kinda feel like that's dead in the water. I have real genuine fears about all of my lame Amazon products. Somebody's gonna be like oh, I got a bunch of Paper towels. This sucks. I thought I was gonna get something cool. Your scenario that you brought up a couple weeks ago about the toilet paper. You're in a crisis situation, and somebody just netted your toilet paper right out of there, and you're like, where's that drone? That drone coming? That is actually that is actually the plot of Taken 3. Oh yeah. You take Liam Neeson's toilet paper from him [?]. I have a specific set of skills, and they involved netting and drums. No he will find you. He will find you. I will find you, I will drum you. And he's gonna hunt down all the drums. Once that took his Amazon delivery. Yeah. That's what Taken 3 is about, obviously. I like it. I think we should pitch that too. You're welcome, Hollywood. Somebody get me the CEO of Hollywood. Show business. The only guy who doesn't have that problem is our guy that doesn't have to go to the bathroom for 48 hours. No. He doesn't need the drone delivering his toilet paper, so he's fine. [SOUND] What a lucky man.>>Lucky, lucky man.>>Alright, our last headline that we are going to talk about, we had quite a bit of user feedback on. So we are going to spend a little bit of time on it, was Tesla summons, and Tesla auto park.>>This is awesome. This is happening. This is now. This is not, you know Tomorrow Daily often talks about what's going to happen years>>Five years>>Six months, ten years, a year We're talking about the future, this is now. This already happened. This is actually Yesterday Daily. Look at it! This could be Yesterday Daily. Come over here, Tesla. This is, no joke, one of the most interesting things I've ever seen, and I wish I owned a Tesla so I could try it. Yeah, is it time for our weekly begin Tesla to send us cars? Yeah, listen, no I just want them to long-term loan us cars. It's a recurring segment that we do. Well, we just launched Road Show. So I think we're totally out of luck on that. But yeah, so Tesla update. Okay, first of all, and we'll talk about autopilot in a second. They also updated autopilot. Tesla updated its cars this weekend and they added Summon, which is a feature where you tap the Tesla app and it connects to your car, your car starts up like it is doing right now. Look how rad that is. And it will also automagically Connect to your garage door and open it. Yeah. And get out of the garage and come to you. Now, a lot of people joke that Elon Musk is Batman, Tony Stark Or Tony Stark, No, but he is. But he's literally adding Batmobile functionality Yeah On the cars. And Jarvis. I mean, that's the Batmobile. Might as well have Jarvis. Yeah Like, why don't we just add Alexa to this car and then you have, like, a Jarvis and you have Batmobile functionality. Pretty soon it's gonna have a net that shoots down drones. [LAUGH] Bring them all together. That'll be great. I want this more than I can tell you, and I truly do want it to expand. I mean, I think they're starting small to make people feel comfortable with this idea and I feel like oh, this car's gonna drive a long distance I'm already comfortable. I wanna be at the store. You're ready. And I wanna go, hey car. Hey car. [CROSSTALK] You gotta give your car a name. My car's name is Vera. Vera? My car's Vera. I have a Veloster. So it's Vera the Veloster. So I'll go, hey Vera. Get over here. He'd be like Scorpion. Mine, I guess I could name mine Civic Solomew. Cuz I have a Honda Civic. That's just [LAUGH] I am so deeply, that is almost as bad as naming your kid, I don't know, like Paper. I don't know. [LAUGH] Naming your kid paper. That's a terrible name. No, I love this idea of just being able to call your car and have it come to you That is the greatest thing ever, That's pretty cool. And it's happening and it's in our grasp. It's here. I mean, it's not even, it's just, alright. So we have some, we have quite a bit of user feedback on this so we're gonna discuss some I'm so curious to see if people trust it or don't. Found. Yeah. So,Arsene says"I think the Tesla summon feature is great,but should be should limited to a particular distance,or else it will be abused" We'll discuss some of that in a brief second because some else has also mentioned the range. Of summon. W wrote in and said- Yeah. I say reduce the range limits. Can the Tesla tech be wired to my kids? Summon your children, you tap the button- That's rad! They're like, we're playing, and then you touch the button, they're like, [SOUND]! The chip in their neck or something. They walk towards you autonomously. They're like, help, yeah. That would be so good. Or just have the car come and pick them up. Oh, that would also be really good. Just go, go pick up my children. Never get into a car with strangers. Only get into empty cars. Or a strange car, yeah, or a strange car. Is that gonna e the new stranger danger, strange cars? Is the windowless candy van going to actually not have anybody in it? Because that's not good. If your car doesn't answer to the name Vera, you do not get into it. Yeah, exactly. And then Ray wrote in, said I suggest that a owner uses a driver in their car and then summon to a restaurant. Yeah. I like that. Oh, just take me to a restaurant. Take me to a restaurant. All right, so the last one is Brady who says has Tesla given any official word on the range of the new summon feature? Okay. So going back to our Send us a Tweet queue, It's 33 feet currently. Which is not a lot. I did some research and yeah, it's 33 feet, it's about enough to get you out of your garage, and to the end of the driveway. Yeah. But, if you keep walking 32 feet away from your car, and keep calling it like a puppy, you could just walk it to the store. Like a drone with auto follow, you just come with me Tesla, and you just walk. I would totally just keep doing that. I know you would. I know you would. [LAUGH] I would just walk, I'd take my car for a walk. You would take your Tesla for a walk and I don't even. I don't even. I can't. I can't. You can't because it's such a good idea. It is, it is a, it is a patently Jeff Kinault idea. [LAUGH] I won't say if it's good or bad. It's a patently Jeff Kinault idea. Yeah. Honestly, I think this is People are gonna abuse this. Very quickly. How would you abuse it? Well, like autopilot. Yeah. The people find a way. Life finds a way. A beautiful mind's a waste. You can always find a way. [LAUGH] Sad commentary. Jeff, they always find a way. I always find a way. People are gonna abuse this because Tesla's already said they want to extend the range very quickly and they want to Scale it up, soon. And on top of that, they also updated the Tesla with autopilot limitations now. Yeah. So they have some limits on the autopilot feature. Well I get the idea of going down the freeway at whatever. 90 miles an hour? 70 miles an hour, and then getting out of the seat. And just going. And sitting in the back. Oh yeah. I understand how that would make people uncomfortable. Doesn't make me uncomfortable. I think the car is a safer driver than a human being. Every time, but I understand- [CROSSTALK] saying mostly. I just don't understand what the abuse case is for the summons. The car isn't gonna drive 90 miles an hour to come get you. You are literally taking all the power away from people. You're just saying that they're It's coming a farther distance on its own. In your driveway. So that's where I think it's okay. But let's say you're gonna start seeing people park their car around the corner from like off of Melrose. And they're gonna pull onto a busy street. And there's not gonna be anyone in the car. That's rad. [CROSSTALK] How cool would it be if you're just hanging with your friends and you're like, oh, did you want to go somewhere? There's a car now, cuz I summoned it. My car, I've summoned it like Harry Potter out of nothing. Amazing. So rad. All right, do you think we should take a quick break? That'll be a let down very soon. [LAUGH] Well for me, I think it's really cool how social media savvy you are and- Are you a tech guy just in general? Half, I'm half way techie. So you use half phones? There are some, yeah, I just snap Razor phones in half. [LAUGH] Yeah, like Walter White. I only like the top half of the photo. Right, there's no touch screen, and I'm touching it, and it's a Nokia from 1998. No, I'm sort of, there's stuff where there's just a ceiling or a weird wall somewhere. Where I will not understand. Before we got on the air we were saying how I had to watch a YouTube video to understand what peach is. Yeah. And then, like a grandpa. But then there's other things that I would understand that too much of my brain is used for, so. I think we all use a little bit too much of our brain for social media. [LAUGH] That's for sure, and too much of our time as well. And I would say, yeah, time and And you pretty, not famously, but you've talked before about your Vine videos were extremely popular- Oh, and funny, and fun, so true, yeah. So funny, hilarious, like, great. And then you kinda walked away from that and the set, and I know that, like, a big part of that was the return on investment. And I wanna discuss a little bit about Sort of how you feel using, because we all use multiple social media networks. I mean, I can think of five off the top of my head that I use every day. Uh-huh. And, at what point, like for everybody at home too, they're all juggling those social media networks. At what point do you have to walk away from it? Because you can be social media savvy but there is a point where You have to also be savvy enough to say. Yeah. This is not what I'm getting. I'm not getting the right thing out of this. I think it's time to walk away when it makes you feel bad. So every day then. I should walk away every day. No, I think that most people. That's a weird way to put it for me but I do think that most people sort of. If there's any sort of, for lack of a better term obsession, with any sort of social media or what the return is or anything like that, then that's immediately unhealthy. So for me it was like, oh, I'm making these vine videos. I mean, the timing was right, that app came out I was like, I don't know, I'm just pilot season's sort of starting. [LAUGH] And so I wasn't all that busy. [LAUGH] It's kind of, [LAUGH] I got six seconds to spare. [LAUGH] Have a few six seconds, [UNKNOWN]. Yeah, I don't know. Then a few months later or whatever it was, I was like, hey I don't want to do this anymore, but it. So, it wasn't real thought out, it was just like I'm doing this and then I'm not doing this. I realized I hadn't made one in a couple weeks and I was like that feels good I think. [LAUGH] And then but also its like well I've been fortunate enough to be an actor since I was a youngster and then you go to like this and that and there's Yeah, you're at ComicCon and teenagers are like yeah, lemon guy. And you're like yeah all right. So. But then you're, you don't want to be lemon guy [CROSSTALK] I'll put that, I'll live by that, I'll put that on my tombstone. Things that can happen. Here lies lemon guy. On IMDB also known as lemon guy. Lemon guy. All the credits are just taken over by lemon guy. [LAUGH] Some jerk went in there like Wikipedia and changed everything I did. And then you find out at the end it was your agent. [LAUGH] It was my agent. What are you doing? So, I snapped the phone in half. [LAUGH] Duh! I go through so many phones! Yeah, so I just kind of, it wasn't all that conscious. I guess I sort of Felt that it was being taken over by teenagers mostly. And then I remember at one I point, I'm like, I gotta change my bio to, I make vines for 40 year olds. [LAUGH] But it's like, what am I doing? And then they end up on Twitter where adults are and they're like, we don't care and I'm like, well I should probably get back to work. Yeah. This was fun. I enjoy making things and being silly. But at a certain point, you're just broadcasting to an invisible camera in your wall like a young Andy Kaufmann. [LAUGHTER] Fair enough. But never progressing past that. [LAUGHTER] Like Andy. If you're ever getting to Yeah, I don't know. Radio City Music Hall. Yeah, it just becomes. Where you will then, someday, spit out lemons with the Rockettes. Yeah, no. It's embarrassing. I think is what it is. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, if I'm being honest it's isn't that. Yeah How much? I think in another 20 years or 50 years someone who would be looked at as an A level. Let's say comedic actor today. A Will Ferrel, a Jim Carey, a Jack Black, whomever, those guys I mean it's already happening with social media celebrities [LAUGH]. I know. Sorry, but internet stars, [LAUGH] I'm sorry. Internet stars. It hits a little close to home, doesn't it? I know, I feel slightly harmed. It's all right. I'm so sorry. But, At some point it will be that. Right. It will be some, there's gonna be you know, a kid born today who sees it that way and self-publishing will be on a completely different level. Sure. Yeah. It's already happening. Like King Batch I mean is, Yeah. You know, he's got development deals now with [UNKNOWN] Absolutely. And he's moving into But they'll fit for Hollywood. He was an actor before the whole Vine thing, but I mean, he absolutely took over and saw an opportunity and kept it going. I think there is a generational thing. I mean, that young man is 15, 20 years younger than me. So, I'm going well, I'm a 40 year old guy. What am I do, like, I can't do that, like No one's going to go like hey hey selfie old will you want a development deal sitting in your house by yourself and you spitting a lemon out of your eye? I thought it was. They gave the show to the cavemen from Geico so that's, that's. Yeah that's true. It was already [INAUDIBLE] You use for a return on investment so I thought it'd go like Well there's absolutely nothing, Right. There's absolutely, nothing was, I don't know. Maybe I did it wrong, I don't know. Do you appreciate the or do you enjoy the one to one communication with fans? Because it's sort of the first generation of Actors that have no barrier between themselves and their audience. No, not really. I don't. [LAUGH] Nice [UNKNOWN]. Do you ever Tweet me? No, I don't. I love that anybody would take time to To watch anything that I do ever. But I don't return a lot of tweets. Mm-hm. I don't know why. This is gonna sound weird but I kinda feel like Well, they're not gonna care. They already said what they had to say. Most of the time it's never a question. Right. It's like, hey, Will Sasso. You sucked in that. Okay, thank you. [CROSSTALK] It's actually kind of a metaphor, the at symbol, cuz they're just talking at you not to you, not with you. That's very interesting. So they're talking at Will Sasso, yeah. I like that. Oh my God. You're like a Kind of clever. Sometimes I just. Social media guru. Sometimes poetry just comes out of my mouth. That's so true. Actually you never know what's gonna happen. Social media poetry. Yeah. I also find it interesting like as a comedian, do you ever find it annoying that you make this content online that you just give away for free, is there a point where you're like I should, not the lemon stuff, because obviously you're like I should be getting paid to spit out lemons, I mean To be fair, I'm sure I would say that too if I had as many people revining or whatever it is, relooping? Looping? I don't know. I don't know, I haven't been on Vine in a while, you guys. But there's also kind of a business aspect to it that a lot of people don't experience. If you could talk a little bit about that and again, It reminds me a little bit when you said it's not fun, it reminds me of the times where if you play World of Warcraft, for example, or Heroes and you're grinding it every day and it just becomes a job to do this thing that you're actually getting anything out of. It's like, I'm not going to get checked for this. What am I getting out of this? The teenagers, they're all hanging out with you, obviously it's like that I'm fine. I guess virtually, yeah. Yeah, that's the return, which. Yeah, exactly. I'm an app with a bunch of kids that, at some point, they're gonna be like, who's the old guy? So I kind of left when I realized it was a frat party and I was walking in there with bald with a half You know, half full keg of beer, he goes, me too, right? Hey guys. Hey guys. WHo wants to take a ride in my camero? [LAUGH] You guys want a ride to 7/11. Listen to white snake. Yeah. We can do it. Pizza subs on me, right? Pizza subs. I'm in. I am into this party this sounds like a good party. Yeah. Yeah, well its just weird you know we're old students. So. So now your on Shame List as a return character? Yeah we're doing Shame List this year which is cool. Is that your main gig or do you got other stuff? No I mean I got bunch of things happening but yeah we shot Shame List in I guess the late summer into the fall and yeah now it's coming out and that was a blast.. I've always loved that show, I have friends that have worked on it and Steve Howie whom I do most of my stuff with is an old pal of mine so that's good. And yeah, no it's a lot of fun. And you're character, Yanis, what's his full name? Yanis Gregorian Papa Dia Montopolis. Okay, I just wanted to make sure. Gizuntite. I was never gonna remember that myself. He's a terrible person. Yeah, he's horrible. I was just saying before we got on the air, "Oh yeah he gets even" Even worse, he gets a whole lot worse. There's not anybody on that show that's not terrible to be fair. > >I mean [INAUDIBLE] It's pretty much yeah it's pretty much a show about terrible people but how fun is that? It's too much fun. Of course the cast and the creator John' Wells. And the writers and all of the directors are absolutely amazing. And yeah it's a joy to be working on that. And it is completely shameless. We did a table read. And I'm like, oh. [LAUGH] I get to say this. He did not. The stuff that's happening, it's one of the finer shows on tv and I am a fan, so it's, I'm very grateful to be doing that. Do you, what other stuff are you involved in? Do you do any sort of new media stuff on your own? Are you sort of main stream Stream media. Okay. I don't even know. I could tell you one. What? Will does a little podcast. That's right. Logan Moy, who is The man behind the curtain, right now, switching the cameras, if you see anything that, you know, eh, ay, eh. That's Logan. [LAUGH] And, yeah, yeah, and Logan and I have been working together for a couple years now and he has a pod cast that's been on a little bit longer then that Yeah, it's a lot of fun. It's weird. I started it with a couple other buddies of mine. My friends, Brian [UNKNOWN] and Chris [UNKNOWN], and they still do the podcasts from time to time. It used to be just the three of us all the time, and now there's other friends of mine getting involved, and the guys come back whenever they feel like it, and And it's grown and taken on its own weird thing. Life. Yeah, your characters and things. Podcasts in general sort of have just exploded in the comedy community especially in the last couple years. Everybody's got one now, yeah? Yeah, it's very odd. And my experience, and Logan and I will talk about this a lot, that's it like You know cuz I'll be just going to Logan like, how we doing? [LAUGH] And then there's Twitter. That audience, the audience for the podcast and there is a Twitter handle for the podcast, I find that that is sort of interesting because it's less broad, it's very specific. Where as someone would come to you tweeting just to me and I'll be like Like I said, I don't even think they want to actually talk to me, they're just saying something at me. Right. The Twitter, the podcast audience is very specific and it's one that I really enjoy and I'm always talking on the show how the show doesn't have fans We have friends, you know like blah blah blah. You know. [LAUGHS] But it really is this interesting. I like that, we might steal that. Go ahead, I haven't bothered to patent it, I don't think I'll be able to. Fans not friends. Fans not friends. But it's an interesting little community of people who like this show, and then you know we just Yeah, it's very odd. It's gone from, I don't know. I do feel like most, because I'm old I do feel like [LAUGH] You're really hitting that a lot today. Yeah I do feel like entertainment for me kind of goes this way. And I remember, you know, like being on Mad TV, ba, ba, ba, ba, around 47 years ago when we did that show. Mm-hm, back when television started. Back when TV started in the golden era. [LAUGH] This is how we would get the emails. There would be the emails like questions, suggestions, comments, Mad TV.@bizaol.messenger/ww. [LAUGH] And they would print them out. Like a textbook. Oh wow. Yeah. So there'd be one or two email bibles floating around the writer's office on Monday. And you go like, who's got the emails? Oh, they're at Gary's office. [LAUGH] Wow. And you go, Gary, I'm almost done with them. I'm not kidding. So- That is, wow. And we would read them, and we would enjoy them and laugh. But at a certain point, some of the suggestions were taken. And I remember going like, whoa, whoa, whoa. There's writers here from Kids in the Hall, SCTV, Saturday Night Live, In Living Color, Mister Show. Yeah, but that kid who's got a computer and internet connection. Right. Genius. Pretty sharp. Yeah, and I'm like, there's a guy You know, there's a guy, there's a 50-year-old guy in a lady's wig and underwear and nothing else, you know telling us what to do with. And now we're listening to him. You're like, "I'm the only guy in a lady's wig." [LAUGHS] That's a great character. But it was sort of the beginning of this interactive thing, and I was like, "I don't get it." So There are pluses and minuses. Yeah. The interactivity is wonderful in many ways, and then there's other ways where it's not. Getting back to the podcast, I sort of felt like, "Well I've got me and my two goofy-ass friends, and it's just fun for us to put things this way. We don't need you to," but immediately people seep in. Yeah. But it was in a A way that reacted really well to what well to what we were doing and therefore a community was built. Right. And now it feels very genuine which I like and that's why I've continued to do it and I enjoy doing it versus. Something where you've got people hitting you up going, do this instead of that, and it's like well, this a bummer. It's almost that, like, barrier to access is really helpful. Where it's like, they have to take the time to come to you, that way they don't have that immediate, like, YouTube comments, we all know Sorry, YouTubers, I'm sorry. But it's like they have an immediate access to say whatever they want, and a lot of times the things that they say are neither here nor there. They're the worst. Those YouTube comments. And then while I was one Vine and looking at the comments I was blown away by how those are bad those are bad. [Laughs] The YouTube comments are the worst those are the worst of the internet Right? I think so. I think that's just actually been officially decided Okay so we're going to wrap things but but where... Everybody's half way through their comment on being like awwww guess I won't. Right. [LAUGH] No listen. You wanna sit around going hey aren't comments horrible everybody? Yeah. Thank a lot. [LAUGH] I know. [MUSIC] This week's back it or hack it I think will be very interesting Interesting to you because you have pre-ordered an Oculus Rift. Oh, yes. This is the Teslasuit. Now, we've actually talked about Teslasuit before on Tomorrow Daily, back when Kale was co-hosting. Mm-hm We talked about Teslasuit, Tesla Studios, no relation to Elon Musk and we're trying to log out the word tesla today. Yeah. They were doing A feed back system that works with bands. So, you can see this is the old video. Hm. An old video has all these bands that you attach to your body, and they would give you [UNKNOWN] feedback. Right. In real time so that you could feel what you were playing. Yes. So, the virtual environment is effecting your body, touching your arm, touching your leg. squeezing you. Get shot in the Call to Duty. It's gonna in the arm your gonna Kind of feel of something. Yeah. [INAUDIBLE] ball at you like this. Yeah you throw a basketball at your head. A gentle breeze in the out door. Breeze, there's all kinds of different. It doesn't have to be n impact, it has to be some type of environmental feedback. Right. That [INAUDIBLE] wanted to bring you. And now, on the show. I just would like to say I feel really good about this. Because on the show we said. We want a full suit. Full suit! They heard you. Obvious full suit, and guess what? Now there is a full suit. It is on Kickstarter, it is happening. [UNKNOWN] suit is real And in a full body suit, there are two different versions of it. I wanna talk about this with you because you are super into VR. Oh yeah. All right. So let's talk about the different. First of all, it looks really cool. It does. It looks like a motorcycle outfit. Which I think [LAUGH] the more people have objections to VR, the more I think it comes down to not looking pretty cool. I think design is key. Design is key. It's true. And these guys I think have nailed design, at least with the suit because it doesn't look goofy. It doesn't look dorky, it doesn't look like you're wearing a bright blue morph suit. Right. And you're About to go- Or pink pajamas, for example. Or pink pajamas, that is also true. Pink pajama onesies are great. And I think this isn't going to be a mass market wide appeal product. It's not like people are gonna get into their suits every time they play a game. But there are gonna be some instances where being completely immersed and feeling that Sense of touch on your body when you're in a virtual environment is gonna be really transcendent and really cool. And I think we can all come up with, without saying out loud, what industry will make the most use of the Teslasuit. Yes. Medicine. We don't need to say it. Sorry Yes, Medicine. School.>> It rhymes with [UNKNOWN] F [LAUGH] .>> [UNKNOWN] [LAUGH] .>> [UNKNOWN] Industry.>>Yes.>> So the [UNKNOWN] suit, let's talk about what this is, because it sounds like it's a onesie, right? It sounds like it's sort of a one piece suit that you kind of put on like a wetsuit. But it's not it's actually a jacket And pants. Yeah. Two separate pieces. You can actually back separate pieces. Right. So you can say I just want the pants, or I just want the jacket, you can do that. If you're in the [UNKNOWN] industry and you don't want the pants, [LAUGH] We understand why. [LAUGH] We get it. We get it. So, it's not cheap. It's a real industry innovator, Jack. That industry is a real technology innovator. People underestimate the silly yarn industry. They do. Not cheap, this technology. No. Not cheap. Although, to be fair, You'd paid after shipping and all that stuff about $700 for the [CROSSTALK] Yeah, right. That's why I can't afford a jacket and pants anymore. This is about $1,800 for the whole suit. $1,800 for the whole suit. And so what's the improvements over the bands? Is it still just specific pressure points in the suit? Yeah, so there's 16 channels in the Tesla suit. Actually, I take that back. There's two different versions of the Tesla suit. Okay. So there is the pioneer version, which is the 16 channel. Tesla suit. So there's eight channels in the jacket, eight in the pants. Comes with a three corner hat? Totally, yeah. Pioneer version. Nice pioneer version. And then it comes with a hat called the Mayflower. It's a VR hat. That's an extra add-on that we just made up. And then there's also the Prodigy version, which if you would like a Tesla Prodigy with a development kit There are, I'm sorry, 52 channels. So quite a bit more. Wow, that's incredible. On the Prodigy suit but it's also quite a bit more expensive at $2,655. But now my big question is how does software support this? I mean, what, you're not just gonna be able to plug any game or virtual experience into this thing and have it touch ya'. True, but what I think what they're hoping is, is developers will come up with, they'll get the SVK and they'll develop four games that are already out. Okay. So that way you could almost plug it in like a pack. So you could maybe buy the [?] feedback for, or you just download it. Well you know, when we were at CES, I talked to the razor guys who are developing VR OSVR. OSVR, yeah. And their whole concept for OSVR, is that they're designing hooks for products that they can't even foresee. Right. So the idea will be that OSVR will actually support all kinds of Output devices and input devices that they don't even know people are making that. They're relying on the development community to come up with those use cases and to create that connectivity. But it'll actually work. It'll be a plug and play kind of solution for any of that. So That's kind of exciting. If something like this can take advantage of that, it really doesn't need to have people designed specifically for it. It will just pick up what's already happening. Very true. How it works, from what I've seen I mean it's got a belt. It's sort of your tub, and then you have that. It goes with either the jacket, the pants or both. They have it available for men and women. So hopefully it'll, you know? Pretty cool. I don't know if I'm gonna drop that amount of coin on this kind of thing, but. Woof. You know, kinda cool. I mean I would really want to try it. I definitely want to try it. I want to try it really badly. Can we go visit them? Where are they? They here? I think they're in the UK. Well dang it. But maybe they'll come here. Maybe they'll send us one. Maybe they'll come here, maybe they'll visit Los Angeles for a conference and then they can. Let's try one. Put it in the Tesla, we'll summon it. Perfect. Then we'll get to try it. Sound great. I like it. But that's it. They've got about 19 days left in their kick starter campaign. Like I said there's a whole bunch of different ways you can back it. If you have a bunch of disposable income and you're like, I have got to have a VR Feedback suit. Put it in a drone. It's time for Into It. [MUSIC] Into It is always one of my favorite parts of the week cuz we get to talk about the things that we're really into. I'm a little late to this party, but I have gotten into, since The new year started recently I finally took the opportunity to start a 1 second per day video. Now if you guys haven't heard about this this is a really cool app has been around for a few years Is now and here's an example of it. You take a one second, you take video everyday and then you capture one second out of the videos per each day and edit them together and by the end of the year You have a five minute video that is a quick incaptualization of your entire year. And these are, if you watch them you kind of get emotional because you watch this passage of time and you kind of see an entire year happen very very quickly. And the app is really slick, see it has a calendar. And you tap on a day, and then it shows you all the videos that you took that day, and then you select a specific second from them. Right. The only challenge is to remember to take at least some video every single day, but I've kinda gotten into the habit, and I I hope that anybody hearing this, you know we're a little bit into the year but it's not too late to start. And this app is only like three bucks. It's really slick, it works really well. And I'm so excited because some of my friends have made these in previous years. And the results are really moving. They're really moving. And it just It's a great way to capture and remember an entire year's worth of time in a really brief thing you can send out to your friends in an email or something. It's great. I like it, I like that. Yeah, so I'm only a few days into it, I only have a coupe of weeks now. But- Let's say I'm 15 videos behind starting tomorrow, so. Yeah. Maybe if I start now I'll just put it up on the 15th of next year. Yeah, there you go. [CROSSTALK] next year. And maybe at the end of the year we'll share both of our videos if you do it. I'll definitely want to share mine, because I'm exited. I'll do it. I'm excited, it's gonna be cool. Yeah I like that. That's really neat. Okay, so I, this week, am into Well, okay I'm not into the passing of David Bowie. Heartbreaking. So sad. And Alan Rickman died today. So sad. I'm having a lot of Snape feelings today. 2016 is really starting off with some big people going down it's really sad. It's not fair. But I have been into this week Blackstar which is David Bowie's final album. And he released Lazarus, a new video for Lazarus this last week. Was it two days, the day before, the day of? Maybe. Right around the time he passed away. And incredible. Music. A lot of you out there watching the show might be a little younger. Maybe you haven't really listened to a lot of David Bowie. Maybe you only know David Bowie as an actor. Maybe you're like, hey, it's the guy who played Tesla in The Prestige. But no, you have to [MUSIC] Listen to his music, because it's really incredible. And honestly, every phase of his career has just been so fascinating and so interesting. And if you love music at all, it is worth the time to listen to Blackstar. It's so so good. There's so much. There's so much interesting about it. There are so many different pieces and the way that it came together was really fascinating. I read and article in 'Rolling Stone' about how everything kind of came together. How he went and saw this experimental jazz band in New York and he really liked them and all of a sudden they had an email from David Bowie saying come play on my new record. [CROSSTALK] Just the idea that he knew he was dying and still wanted to work, and still wanted to leave something. Another album. Wow. Give this last gift. Yeah, this last gift. To fans and also, I'm sure his family. I mean this is really, truly he is a work of art. And you don't get to say that about a person very often. That's true. So I really love that his final goodbye was this beautiful work of art and it's Honestly you guys it's just so good. Wow. Like it's such a good record. There's so many great songs. I can't speak highly enough about it. I'm really enjoying it. I've been streaming it in the car like back and forth all week. Yeah. And I was listening to it a little bit before because my husband played me Blackstar, the title track from the album. Mm-hm. Right when it came out. So a couple weeks ago. And I said, wow. This is really interesting and weird and I, just, you know, not a Bowie that I'm used to hearing, like it's so good. It's so good. We miss you David Bowie. Pretty amazing. Kind of, you felt that guys was never going to He just, he's just not even human. Yeah, like he had unlocked the secret to immortality, that he was somehow an alien. I really liked what, I think, what Simon Peg said which was, you know if you're sad about David Bowie, I'm paraphrasing of course, but he tweeted something along the lines of, "you're sad about David Bowie Just feel grateful that in the history of the entire earth you were here the time that he was alive and that's pretty amazing. Pretty cool. You can appreciate that. But yeah that's what I'm in to, I highly recommend it. If you're feeling bummed about David Bowie listen to that album, you'll feel a little better about it.
