5G phones are finally here.
Okay, not really.
AT&T is now touting a fake 5GE connection on iPhones after rolling out the indicator on Android phones last month.
Roger, what is 5GE?
Yes, 5GE is AT&T's meta term, it stands for 5G evolution.
So basically it's gonna evolve to 5G, but it's not 5G.
But it's not 5G.
Come on,-
So but yes, it's like at this point, let's be clear.
At this point it's intentionally misleading.
They blast out commercials with the 5GE logo now, They tell you about network superiority.
And look, this is what it comes down to.
All these carriers wanna be the first to say we've got 5G, we've got 5G.
AT&T, actually to its credit, actually was the first to launch a mobile 5G, a legit 5G network in 12 cities.
But then coverage is so small that they wanted to kinda juice it up a little bit by adding this 5G E designator.
Which really is just LT advance technologies that every other carrier or the users.
And so because it's in broad areas, 5G symbols show up a lot more frequently.
Let's delve into that a little bit more as far as why AT&T is doing that.
It's because to me personally, I feel like at least fairly tech savvy people are folks that are paying attention This'll blow up for AT&T because people are just calling it straight up fake, calling it what it is, which is, it's made up.
Brian, like most technically savvy people kind of know the difference and they can discern, but the network CEO at CES, John Donovan, basically doubled down and said, our consumers actually love it when we say that, and so.
[LAUGH] My God.
The thing of it is that there are a lot of folks who aren't technically savvy who will kind look at this 5GE, and it does give you kind of a speed boost over 4G-
That's just misleading.
