Alienware M11x (Nvidia Optimus)
I am Scott Stein senior associate editor at cnet.com. And this is the Alienware M eleven X laptops -- Nvidia optimism versions.
I say that because we reviewed the Alienware M eleven X previously in the spring we talked about it at CES 2010 as well.
It's an eleven point six inch small ultra portable laptop.
With pretty powerful built in high end graphics but an ultra low voltage processor inside previously.
And core to dual -- processor.
Which combined provide an interest in balance between decent battery life switching over to some pretty good graphics in a compact little shell.
Back then the starting price for this little eleven point six inch laptop with 799. But since then.
Dell has released and new version with upgraded processors and Nvidia optimist automatically switching graphics at a starting price of 949.
No what you get for this he -- -- core I five you'll be processor or you can upgrade to court seven you'll be processor. Also get up to.
Four or eight gigs of ram a 500 -- -- 200 rpm hard drive when you add all that -- and hours he came to about 1299 so it's really not that cheap.
And another thing -- little disappointing is that while the Nvidia optimist graphics do you provided automatically -- experience meaning.
You can go from your game playing mowed down to -- nine dedicated graphics mode using integrated graphics to extend your battery life.
The actual gains in our test we're not that spectacular.
In fact the battery life was a little bit less than we had on the previous version.
A little over three hours which is great for gaming laptop but it's also great for most laptops -- you'd expect would have slightly better battery life -- --
The Mac books being a great example.
There's also no optical drive on this which is surprising because it's a pretty thick base.
On the other hand you're getting Nvidia GeForce GT 330 fighting graphics in here which are really good.
-- -- step below really high end graphics you're gonna get some really nice frame rates we played a lot of mainstream games looked fantastic.
And there's a great built in audio system here -- with five point one simulated surround.
You can also export this with HDMI or using display port there's no began -- which is drop from the previous model a little strange.
And you can play on an HDTV or monitor.
1080.
All in all for the price there -- a lot of other laptops you can get that provide -- a better overall experience but if you're looking for really portable gaming experience.
For price that won't destroy you.
It could -- actually want to look into particularly with the added improvements.
I'm Scott Stein and this is the new Alienware M eleven X Nvidia -- suspicious.
