The first kind of flat-panel TV to hit the market more than 10 years ago, plasma displays have come a long way since then. They're much more durable now, and the burn-in bugaboo is pretty much a thing of the past. Their picture quality is also superior to all but the most expensive LED LCDs.
Unfortunately for home theater afficianados, plasmas are an endangered species. Industry leader Panasonic has announced it will no longer make plasma TVs, and its last 2013 models are sold out. That leaves Samsung and LG. Both will come out with new plasmas later this year, but for now this list remains very short.
