Photos: 2007 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart
The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart falls short as a sport-tuned sedan, and its cabin electronics are a mixed bag. We love its efficient engine, and its stereo is fun for blasting loud rock and roll. But torque steer and lack of refinement bring it down.
Mitsubishi tuned up its Galant sedan, a Camry-competitor, into the Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart. The sport-tuning includes a more rigid suspension and a more powerful engine.
The Galant Ralliart has a massive air scoop and European-style headlight covers.
From the side, the Ralliart version doesn't look much different than the standard version.
The tail of the Galant Ralliart reminded our reviewers of the Cadillac CTS.
The taillight covers include translucent molding at the top that continues the spoiler line from the trunk lid. This touch reminds us of concept cars at auto shows.
There are some nice sport touches inside, but the general effect feels plasticky.
With the navigation option, Mitsubishi adds an LCD at the top of the stack. The shape of its housing initially made us think it could retract.
We like the array of functions available when the navigation option is present. Mitsubishi makes good use of the big LCD.
The navigation computer shows your longitude and latitude, a pretty nice feature, in our estimation.
The CD screen uses a particularly ugly font to display ID3 tagging information. The Sirius satellite radio screen uses the same font.
Not many cars show a recent history of the cabin temperature, or the barometric pressure.
The trip screen is particularly cool, letting you save lap times.
White racing gauges are another cue that the Galant Ralliart is intended for sport driving. Indicators on the fuel and temperature gauge show what the automatic transmission is doing.
The engine in this car uses Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve timing. It's a big, 3.8-liter V-6 that puts out 258 horsepower--yet it got 22.1 mpg in our testing.
