The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is the V8 dirt monster we've always wanted
After years of pleading, Jeep finally stuffed a V8 under the hood of the Wrangler.
It's been 40 years since the 1981 Jeep CJ had a 5.0-liter V8 under the hood, producing a mere 125 horsepower.
Times have changed, and the new 392 model gets a 6.4-liter V8 with a stonking 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
That's enough power to scoot from a dead stop to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Full-time four-wheel drive is paired with the Selec-Trac transfer case with a 2.72 low range.
Once the math is done with the 3.73 final drive ratio in the Dana 44 axles, you come out with a crawl ratio of 48:1.
These 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels are wrapped with 33-inch BF Goodrich KO2 A/T tires.
Out back, a set of quad exhaust tail pipes make sure the neighbors know when you've arrived.
The available Sky One-Touch power soft top takes 17 seconds to open or close, but you have to hold the button the entire time.
The 392 is the most expensive of all Wranglers, starting at a whopping price of $74,995 including $1,495 for destination.
My tester shown here with the upgraded convertible top, trailer tow package, and forward-facing camera comes to an incredible $78,545. Yowza.
