2017 Infiniti QX80: The last go-around for Fudgie the Whale
A new generation is on tap for 2018, but that doesn't mean this year's model should be ignored.
Here we have the 2017 Infiniti QX80 for your perusal. But be warned: The 2018 model has gotten a heavy refresh.
The QX80 is one giant SUV with seating for seven, although there is an option for a second row bench seat, bringing the seating total to eight.
When it comes to tech, don't expect Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Infiniti's InTouch system is all you'll get.
Under the hood is the old reliable 5.6-liter V8 engine, putting out 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Distance Control Assist keeps the driver from getting too close to the car in front but actively controlling the throttle.
Other driver's aids include blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and prevention and adaptive cruise control.
While the 16.6 cubic feet of space behind the third row is pretty average for a full-sized SUV, that expands to 49.6 cubic feet behind the second row and just over 95 total.
The large 22-inch wheels on the Limited trim make for a bit of a harsh ride in the city.
Unique to the Limited trim, the Truffle Brown interior high on luxury. Infiniti wraps everything in leather, including the speaker grilles, and where there isn't leather there is open pore matte finish ash wood trim.
