TAIPEI -- If you thought Sony's selfie-focused Xperia C3 with its 5-megapixel front shooter, flash and 25mm wide-angle lens was the bomb, Asus's aptly named ZenFone Selfie is about to make you a very happy camper. The phone follows the Taiwanese computer giant's earlier announcement of the Asus ZenFone Zoom at CES in January of this year, which also used an impressive camera as a key selling point.

The Selfie features a front-facing 13-megapixel camera with a dual LED flash, and comes with a "Beautification" feature that lets you soften facial features, slim your cheeks down and enhance the color of your skin (all in real time, no less).

And if the front f/2.2 camera with its 88-degree field of view isn't enough, there's also a panorama mode that extends this to 140 degrees, letting you easily take group pictures. To make selfie-shooting even easier there's an option kickstand that lets you position the phone in portrait mode for easier hands-free snapping. Colour options include pink, white and blue, but these of course have fashion-names like "chic pink".

The rear camera is no slouch either. Like the shooter on the front, it has 13 megapixels and comes with a dual-LED flash, but Asus has also added laser auto-focus -- the same tech found on LG's G4 flagship phone.

The ZenFone Selfie is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and runs Google's Android with a custom skin called the Asus ZenFone UI. Like the ZenFone 2, it has a 5.5-inch IPS display with a full-HD resolution -- that's 1,920x1,080-pixels -- and a screen density of 403ppi. Protecting this screen is Corning's Gorilla Glass 4.

No pricing or availability information was revealed during the Asus press conference, but we'll update as information comes to hand.
