The white version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 will be arriving in the UK on 1 September, the Korean company promises. Oh can it be true? Can we really be so close to a white version of a popular telephonic device? It's only been available for three months! It's true. We wrote about the white edition of the S2 yesterday, when a posting from online retailer Clove indicated a launch date of 15 August. But now it looks as though we might have to wait a few extra weeks before the milky mobile arrives.
The white version of the S2 is exactly the same as the black version in terms of hardware and software, but, y'know, it's white! We'll be watching with interest to see how popular the white version is in terms of sales -- we know the Galaxy S2 has already chalked up a whopping 5 million sales in its first 85 days on sale, and that's before it's reached the US.
Samsung is already in a spot of bother with Apple -- JobsCo is of the mind that Samsung's smart phone and tablet offerings are flagrant copies of its own products. Indeed, Apple is trying to halt the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US. Something tells us bringing out a white version of its most popular smart phone is unlikely to convince people that Samsung is coming up with its own ideas.
That said, we remember a time not so long ago when all mobiles came in a selection of different colours, and not just boring old black. Variety is the spice of life, non? Come back Nokia, all is forgiven!
A September release could put the white version of the S2 directly in competition with the next iPhone, which is expected to launch in the next two months.
Will you hold out for the white S2? Or is black the n'est plus ultra of consumer technology colouration? Either way, let us know in the comments section below, or on our Facebook page.
