Top 15 movies not out on Blu-ray
Our list is starting to dwindle, but there are still some favorites that haven't been released yet. Here are 15 we're still waiting for.
'Catch Me If You Can'
Made it to Broadway but not Blu-ray.
'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial'
Spielberg's 1982 "E.T." reigned for years as the all-time box office champ, and it's still a beloved classic. Rumors have it being released in October, so stay tuned (it's up for preorder on Amazon).
'Ed Wood'
Arguably Tim Burton's best movie (and perhaps his only really good one).
"Fantastic Voyage"
A favorite of mine as a kid, I couldn't resist adding it to the list after a reader suggested it.
'Finding Nemo'
This Pixar classic is finally due to hit Blu-ray on December 4.
The first three Indiana Jones adventures
After a long wait, Paramount has officially announced a release date (September 18) for the original three Indiana Jones movies, and you can preorder them now on Amazon.
'Jaws'
So the shark might look a little fake in HD on the closeups, but "Jaws" will still be a must-have Blu-ray when it comes out later this year (August 14).
'Lawrence of Arabia'
When the Blu-ray format was first being previewed, "Lawrence of Arabia" was Sony's poster child for the format's interactivity features (you were able to call up maps and history lessons in the middle of the movie). Alas, Lawrence has been deserted so far, but it's due to launch overseas soon, so a release in the U.S. couldn't be too far off.
'Mulholland Drive'
Some people prefer "Lost Highway," but we're pining for "Mulholland Drive," which made an appearance on HD-DVD.
'On the Waterfront'
Shoulda been a contender for Blu-ray.
'Rear Window'
Both "Rear Window" and "Vertigo" are included in the upcoming "Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection" (September 24), but it's unclear when it will be offered separately.
'The Right Stuff'
"The Right Stuff" is long, but it's got a high repeated-viewing quotient.
"Schindler's List"
No word yet on when "Schindler's List" will make it to Blu-ray.
'Titanic'
Both the 2D and 3D versions are officially set to be released on September 10. It'll end differently on Blu-ray, we swear.
'Vertigo'
Also part of the "Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection" (September 24), but it's unclear when it will be offered separately.
