Photos: RIM BlackBerry Pearl
The RIM BlackBerry Pearl made quite a splash when it debuted, being the first BlackBerry to have multimedia capabilities and expandable media. Now, T-Mobile and Research In Motion have released a white version to spice things up. See it here along with the original.
Much like the gem its named after, the new RIM BlackBerry Pearl White boasts a white-hot case. It's available exclusively through T-Mobile for $149 with a two-year contract.
The BlackBerry Pearl White supports T-Mobile's MyFaves service, which gives you unlimited calling to five contacts, regardless of their carrier(s).
On the back of the device, there is a 1.3-megapixel camera, a flash, and a self-portrait mirror. The Pearl was the first BlackBerry to have an integrated camera.
The Pearl's trackball allows for four-way scrolling and makes it easy to navigate the phone's menus.
While the BlackBerry Pearl White might be latest pretty young thang to hit the cell phone runway, we can't forget the original BlackBerry Pearl that started it all.
On the right spine of the BlackBerry Pearl, you will find a 2.5mm headset jack, a mini USB port, and a customizable shortcut key.
There are volume up and down keys and another programmable convenience key.
The BlackBerry Pearl was a departure from RIM's past devices, which looked blocky and very utilitarian. We much prefer the supersleek and sexy design of the Pearl.
It's also lightweight, making it easy to carry around in your bag or pants pocket.
The BlackBerry Pearl White features all the same capabilities of the original Pearl, including push e-mail, a built-in media player, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and expandable media.
The BlackBerry Pearl's SureType keyboard requires a bit of a learning curve and can be quite frustrating; that said, it does get easier to use over time.
While we absolutely appreciate the inclusion of a microSD card slot, we wish it weren't located behind the battery.
