The Force is strong on All Nippon Airway's R2-D2-themed jet (pictures)
The All Nippon Airway's R2-D2 plane made a side trip to Singapore's Changi Airport and CNET hopped on board for a look.
Announced back in August, Japanese airline All Nippon Airways' R2-D2-themed jet finally took a side trip to Singapore and CNET got the chance to check out the Star Wars plane. The Singapore pit stop isn't the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner's usual route, as the plane will usually fly between Tokyo and Vancouver, as well as between Japan and other cities such as Beijing, Seattle, Paris, Sydney, Jakarta and San Jose, California.
The jet made the trip to bring Japanese tourists to the island-state for a three-day trip. The tourists also got the chance to check out the Star Wars attractions that were just completed at Singapore's Changi Airport (we'll get to those in a bit).
You don't expect the stewardess to usually greet you when you board the plane with a lightsaber and a Darth Vader lantern, but this is probably a special occasion. Just don't get on her dark side.
The first class seats were similarly themed, as you can see, with the color scheme matching our favorite astromech droid.
While ANA would like you to know it serves pretty exquisite Japanese meals on the flight, our attention was drawn to the R2-D2-themed cup and napkin.
A lone Stormtrooper bears a bowl of delicious candy, though we suspect it's usually not there in that position for landing and takeoff.
A very comfortable-looking Master Yoda was spotted enjoying the hospitality of the ANA crew, though given his stature, he's probably wasting the extra legroom.
The Premium Economy seats also come with the R2-D2 headrests, much like business and first class seats.
If you're wondering why the plane basically looks like something from Eiffel 65's hit song, it's because the lighting is blue.
The economy class seats also feature the same headrests. Also, those on the plane will get a special light show via the overhead lights set to the Star Wars theme.
For those who are lucky enough to get on board, ANA will give you a boarding certificate in the form of this card.
Here's the back of the card.
Singapore's Changi Airport is bringing the galaxy that's far, far away to those in Singapore and two of upcoming Star Wars film's starfighters have made an appearance at the airport. Located in the airport's Terminal 3, the iconic X-wing gives visitors a chance to put on Star Wars costumes and take a photo in the cockpit for free.
There will also be weekly appearances by X-wing pilots and Stormtroopers every Saturday until January.
Imperial Stormtroopers from the original trilogy will also be around for pictures with fans.
A First Order TIE Fighter stands guard at Terminal 2 at Changi Airport. Unfortunately, you won't be able to climb into the cockpit, unlike the X-wing at Terminal 3.
Changi Airport's TIE-fighter is equally detailed on the rear.
A happy fan poses for a photo with a remote-controlled life size R2-D2 astromech droid that was making the rounds at the airport for the event.
