Nothing Phone 2A Is an Affordable Option With Better Specs Than Style

The Nothing Phone 2A trims its price tag compared to its pricier sibling, the Nothing Phone 2, but also trims its specs.

The Nothing Phone 2A is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, which scored lower benchmarks than the chip on the Nothing Phone 2, but we didn't experience any lag or poor performance. 

The Nothing Phone 2A has a similar 50-megapixel main camera and a somewhat downgraded 32-megapixel ultrawide camera compared to the Nothing 2's 50-megapixel ultrawide, but that should still be enough for most casual photographers.

Mediatek processor aside, the Nothing Phone 2A has the same sizeable 6.7-inch display as the Nothing Phone 2 with a respectable 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It packs a 5,000-mAh battery, which should have enough capacity to last all day.

For the aforementioned specs, the Nothing Phone 2A offers a good value for its $349/£349 price. That's about the what the two-year-old Google Pixel 6A is priced at these days, and cheaper than the Moto G Stylus 5G ($400), iPhone SE 2022 ($430), Samsung Galaxy A54 5G ($450) or Google Pixel 7A ($500). 

The Nothing Phone 2's signature LED light glyphs on the phone's rear have been significantly toned down in the Nothing Phone 2A, with a paltry trio of light strips that give the slightest bit of character.

The Nothing Phone 2A is a good value today, but as newer midrange phones are released like the anticipated Google Pixel 8A and the Samsung Galaxy A54 refresh, older Android phones could get price cuts that make them more affordable -- and stiffer competition.

The Nothing Phone 2A is still an attractive option for folks who want a practical phone at a middle price with a bit more panache than the often soulless black rectangles at the more affordable range of the phone spectrum.
