Give high-res live streaming a go with Nest Cam (pictures)
Take a tour of Nest's newest product, a $200 DIY security camera with Dropcam Pro looks and a clever app design.
Meet the Nest Cam.
It's a DIY security camera with a companion Android and iOS app.
It may look familiar to you.
That's because it's replacing the Dropcam Pro.
Setup is simple and involves scanning the QR code located on the back of the camera.
It has the same 130-degree diagonal field of view as the Dropcam Pro, as well as live streaming and motion and sound alerts.
But this version is a little different.
It has a sleeker design.
And you can bend and rotate the stand to get the best camera angle.
It also has a magnetic base.
That way, you can snap it to your fridge or another surface for a no-fuss "installation."
Nest introduced an app update along with the Nest Cam announcement.
It acts as a sort of "universal" app, uniting all Nest and Dropcam products.
The app grants you access to all of your various Nest and Dropcam devices.
Nest Cam is widely available in the US now for $200 and will hit UK retail stores like John Lewis and Currys come July for £159.
Nest hasn't announced Australian availability as of yet, but the US price converts to roughly $AU260.
