The new Moto X
Just about everything on Motorola's new Moto X gets freshened up, from the screen size to the color choices.
New materials
Four wood grains and four gen-u-wine leather backplates pop up in the Moto Maker website you use to abracadabra yourself a custom Moto X.
Color wheel
A glance at the 25 shades you can pick for the backplate. You'll be able to pick different colors for your accents, too.
Woodn't you?
A close-up of that wood grain, one of four possibilties.
Metal late than never
Instead of a plastic rim, Motorola opts for aluminum.
Plain old Android
Purists can rejoice in the honest-to-gosh Android OS that doesn't have any carrier or phone-maker's custom interface additions. Like the Nexus line, this Moto X should get version updates before the rest.
Voice control
You'll once again be able to spur the X into action with the dulcet tones of your voice.
Curve alert
Although it's larger than last year's model, the 5.2-inch Moto X is still ergonomically crafted.
Camera and video
The 13-megapixel camera includes tools to find your best photo of a bunch, and can shoot video in eye-popping 4K ultra-HD resolution.
Gesture control
We wouldn't recommend giving the Moto X the finger, but you can wave your whole hand to do things like silence an incoming call or snooze an alarm.
Landing near you
The Moto X update lands in September for markets around the world.
