The Lexus LF-CC concept follows on the LF-LC concept shown at the 2012 Detroit auto show. However, Lexus provides more details on what this concept car represents and how it would be powered.
The LF-CC's styling emphasizes the L-Finesse design language the company has been developing over the past couple of years. The spindle grille is one example from the L-Finesse palette. This concept also uses LED headlights, a feature that Lexus has already rolled out in a production car.
Lexus says the LF-CC is a D-segment car, making it about equivalent in size to the Mercedes-Benz C-class or Lexus' own IS model. The two-door coupe format would seem to make it an unlikely update to the Lexus IS. However, Lexus could be seeking a replacement for its long-gone SC model.
Lexus says the motive power would be provided by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine aided by a hybrid electric system, with horsepower in excess of 200. Those specifications sound suspiciously like that of the new Camry Hybrid, except that Lexus says the engine would use its DS-4 direct injection fuel delivery system, and that the concept is rear-wheel drive.
Lexus says the LF-CC is built and styled specifically to be a hybrid vehicle, which could mean the platform was designed to accommodate the components of the hybrid drive system, including the battery pack.
