Other luxury automakers have done so well with SUVs that Lamborghini is looking to get into the game. The Urus concept demonstrates what a Lamborghini SUV might look like. The name comes from the prehistoric ancestor to our modern cattle. The Urus concept will be on display at Auto China 2012 in Beijing.
Stressing the fact that the Urus remains at heart a Lamborghini, the company says its engine will produce 600 horsepower, without specifying the configuration. Given current models, we would expect a V-12. At the same time, Lamborghini will target very low carbon dioxide output by reducing weight.
With a length of just over 16 feet, the Urus is comparable to other luxury SUVs. But Lamborghini kept the overall height down to about 5 and half feet. Given the 24-inch wheels, that makes for a very sleek body.
All-wheel-drive has become a standard feature on Lamborghini's sport cars, so is, of course, included in the Urus. The ride height is also adjustable to provide greater clearance or better highway performance.
Lamborghini says it simplified the driver controls, using a simple drive selector on the console and steering wheel mounted paddles to manually shift the dual-clutch transmission. The instrument panel is an LCD that the driver can customize.
