It's oh so quiet--for now--at CES (photos)
Very shortly these scenes will be animated with hordes of journalists, buyers, and tech-lovers. Here's a quick tour of the sprawl that is CES.
Main entrance, South Hall. Just up the escalator you'll find the CNET live stage and booth.
Sometimes I wonder if the Las Vegas Convention Center ever hosts anything that's actually bigger than CES. It seems to fill every square foot of each hall.
If it's your first time here, you will probably get lost, but not for long. There are signs absolutely everywhere.
In what is basically a big parking lot in front, you find all manner of giant tents, trailers, and outdoor-booth-experiences set up. Here you can see the view out toward the registration area from the North hall.
Lines will be long here soon enough...
Weather is pleasant and sunny here in Las Vegas, which makes it a little sad to spend all week indoors surrounded by screens.
Yet another portion of the massive convention center.
Plenty of reading material available if you need to find a booth.
The Central Hall houses most of the biggest brands in tech.
Either we're not supposed to enter the North hall yet or these doors are not yet functional. There was tape all over the place up there.
The LVCC is conveniently reachable via the light rail across the parking lot, and during CES there will be a steady stream of taxis doing dropoffs and pickups.
I've never heard anyone refer to this as the "World Trade Center" but apparently that's what it is.
CNET's Best of CES finalists will be announced on Wednesday. You should hear the passionate exchanges in the voting meetings. Winners are announced Thursday.
No doubt these escalators will get a workout this week.
This whole road will be littered with slow-moving traffic for the rest of the week.
CES provides convenient (if slow) and free shuttle buses that make stops at almost all the hotels in in Las Vegas. To find which one you should take you just consult these kiosks and find the right line to stand in.
Most of the CNET staff stays at the neighboring hotel in quick walking distance-- super convenient for getting an early start at the show, with the added benefit of having breathable (un-smoky) air in the casino-less lobby.
