BARCELONA, Spain -- The Sony Xperia Z2 is Sony's latest flagship superphone, boasting a 5.2-inch, Full HD display, a supercharged quad-core processor, Android KitKat software and a 20.7-megapixel camera that's capable of shooting video in 4K. It's due to go on sale in the UK and wider Europe in March, but Sony has yet to announce wider availability.
Like its predecessor, the Z2 is completely waterproof.
It's a very slender chap.
The 20.7-megapixel camera sits on the back. It can shoot video in a whopping 4K resolution, although you will need a 4K display to watch them back on properly.
There's a dedicated camera shutter button on the outside, allowing you snap pictures underwaer.
To help keep the water out, the SIM card slot, microSD card slot and Micro-USB port are protected with rubberised flaps.
The headphone jack doesn't need a port though, so you won't have to unclip anything each time you pop your headphones in.
The chunky power button -- present on all of Sony's recent Xperias -- sits on the edge.
The speakers have been moved to the top and bottom of the front of the phone, rather like the HTC One. Time will tell if the Z2 can offer the same big sound.
It comes running the latest version of Android known as 4.4 KitKat.
Sony has made a few tweaks to the interface too, including loading it up with its music and video streaming services.
The 20.7-megapixel camera gave some good results on the older Xperia Z1, so I'm hoping to see similarly pleasing results.
With its glass front and back and metal edge, it's a very luxurious piece of kit.
