Fundam with Tokyo's giant Gundam

Looking out over Tokyo Bay is a giant robot, a 1:1, 59-foot model of a Gundam Mobile Suit. Here's what it looks like up close.

Gundam

The anime Mobile Suit Gundam launched in 1979. Though there were only 43 episodes, many spin-offs, sequels and more have happened since.

Tall

Your humble narrator at risk of getting stepped on (if the Mobile Suit was actually... mobile). It's impressively tall for robot model.

Gundam at Sunset

Though the surroundings aren't exactly epic, the sunset during my visit was, so that pretty much makes up for it.

Mechabutt

The detail is incredible. Like a ultra-expensive toy just scaled up. Way up.

RX-78-2 Gundam

Ostensibly, this is the original RX-78-2 Gundam suit.

Goodbye, Gundam

As you can see, it's quite an attraction. I arrived before sunset, had dinner, and left shortly after it got dark. There were people of all ages taking photos and selfies the entire time.
