Donkevoort and Morgan: Retro style at the 2007 Geneva auto show
Venerable car maker Morgan and Dutch car maker Donkevoort build limited edition retro-style cars with thoroughly modern mechanicals. Each company showed off its wares in Geneva.
The D8-210 uses a classic open-wheel roadster design. The car weighs under 1,400 pounds and is powered by an Audi-sourced 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Making 210 horsepower, the light D8-210 gets to 62 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds.
Morgan built a version of its Aero 8 for the U.S. market, which meant it had to comply with U.S. Department of Transportation requirements. The Aero 8 America has airbags and antilock brakes. Its 4.4-liter BMW-sourced V8 complies with California emissions standards.
Morgan is building only 100 limited-edition AeroMaxes. The retro styling of the car belies its modern car technology, which includes antilock brakes, airbags, cruise control, and tire pressure monitors. The AeroMax is powered by a 4.8-liter BMW-sourced V8.
