Chrysler UConnect connects with audio-streaming apps (pictures)

Chrysler's infotainment system gets an update at CES and now supports integration Aha, iHeartRadio, Pandora, and Slacker.

Chrysler UConnect connects with audio-streaming apps

LAS VEGAS--Chrysler's UConnect infotainment system add a new tool to its bag of tricks with the addition of a feature called UConnect Access Via Mobile. Part app integration system and part telematics system, the UConnect Access app can communicate with the vehicle via a wireless 3G connection built into the car for functions such as remote engine start and door lock control.

Slacker Internet radio

However when paired via a Bluetooth connection, the new Via Mobile functionality enables users to stream audio from a variety of Internet audio services and apps using the paired smartphone's data connection. Slacker is one of those apps, allowing users to steam hundreds of DJ-curated stations on demand.

iHeartRadio

iHeartRadio is another app supported by UConnect. This app allows users to stream thousands of partnered terrestrial radio stations from around the country over the Internet. So if you've got a favorite local radio station in your hometown, you can keep listening even if you move across the country.

Aha by Harman

Aha by Harman has been making big waves at CES 2013, announcing more than a few partnerships. Through this app, UConnect users can stream a wide variety of audio content, including their Facebook and Twitter feeds, news, sports, and music.

Pandora Internet radio

Pandora app integration includes the app's controls for thumbs up, thumbs down, and skip. Users can also browse their preset radio stations.

App selection

Users can access the audio apps from this app selection screen. If Chrysler forms more partnerships in the future, the software can be push updated via the data connection.

More apps

The UConnect system also allows users to search Bing for destinations via voice command and use the built-in 3G data connection as a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Screen lock

When the Uconnect Access app detects that the vehicle is in motion, it locks out the interface, forcing the driver to use the less-distracting dashboard interface.

Debut vehicles

The new UConnect Access Via Mobile feature will debut later this year on the new Ram pickup and SRT Viper.
