Award-winning tech at the 2009 SEMA Show
We checked out the new car tech at the 2009 SEMA Show to see what the hottest trends are.
PLX Kiwi Wi-Fi with Rev by Dev Toaster
This is technically a bundling of two products. The first bit is the PLX Kiwi Wi-Fi, a Wi-Fi dongle that connects to your vehicle's onboard diagnostics port and broadcasts vehicle data to a paired iPhone. The second part is the Rev app by Dev Toaster, which displays the data in an easy-to-understand format, along with GPS lap times for track use.
PLX Devices GoPod
If you're anything like me, you've got too many cupholders in your car and not enough drinks. With the PLX GoPod, one of those unused drink receptacles can be put to good use keeping your MP3 player or cell phone from flopping around the cabin during spirited driving.
DashDAQ XL
The DashDAQ is a little Linux-powered performance computer, offering OBD-II diagnostics reading, fuel economy info, GPS navigation, and multimedia playback. The DashDAQ XL is all of that plus a much bigger screen, double the onboard memory, and a much more rugged construction.
Bully Dog Watchdog
Bully Dog is most famous for its Triple Dog performance management tools that allow supported vehicle's ECUs to be reflashed for better performance. The new Watchdog OBD monitors don't allow reflashing, but do work with a wider variety of vehicles for monitoring fuel economy, power, and diagnostic trouble codes.
GoPro HD Hero
The GoPro HD Hero Motorsports is the successor to last year's Hero 5 Wide. This new model adds a number of features including 1080p HD resolution video, a rechargeable battery, and an upgrade port that enables the addition of an extended battery or even an LCD display.
DashCommand for iPhone
DashCommand is another very cool-looking iPhone app that uses GPS and accelerometer data to measure vehicle performance. This app is also compatible with Wi-Fi OBD-II readers, such as the previously mentioned PLX Kiwi WiFi, for even more detailed data.
The SureMatic Pistolgrip is a retrofit LED-illuminated pistol-grip shifter handle with gear selection indicators, digital backup, and neutral safety switches and vibration warning for reverse.
Auto-Dimming Mirror with 3.5-inch Rear Camera Display
This auto-dimming rearview mirror from Mito Corporation hides a 3.5-inch color LCD that appears when a rearview camera (not included) sends a video signal. Also integrated are HomeLink controls, a digital compass, and ambient LED lighting.
Sharpvision 7-inch LCD Quad Monitor System
This 7-inch TFT LCD monitor can connect to up to four cameras and offers single-, dual-, triple-, quad-view and picture-in-picture functions.
ChaseCam Data Module
This upgrade module adds GPS and accelerometer data acquisition to basic ChaseCam systems. Additionally, it allows the addition of OBD-II data readers and external vehicle sensors.
Additionally, ChaseCam displayed prototypes of its next-gen DIVA system, which integrates the data module and the video capture module into one package.

TyreSaver 3.0
While we're still on the fence about the true benefits of nitrogen-filled tires, the Parker TyreSaver 3.0 is a hand-held nitrogen generator that extracts close to 100 percent of nitrogen from compressed air. It's replaceable filter cartridge supposedly lasts for thousands of fill-ups.
SSV Works WP-OU2
This weatherproof iPod dock is a self-contained stereo system with an integrated amplifier, speakers, and a wireless remote. After a simple two-wire installation, off-roaders will be able to charge and listen to their iPods regardless of how muddy the terrain gets.
GoLink by GoPoint Technology
The GoLink by GoPoint Technology is an OBD-II to iPhone 30-pin dock connector adapter that is designed to be used in conjunction with future iPhone applications.
