Alcatel's OneTouch smartwatch connects to Android and iOS (photos)

With so many gadget makers releasing technologically enhanced wearables, the time was ripe for Alcatel's OneTouch Watch.

See that strip along the bottom? That's the watch's Home menu.

"Flat" icons lay across the screen, showing you exactly what you can do.

For instance, open a compass.

Fitness and wellness apps measure your heart rate (along with a sensor) and your step count.

There are two white and two black models: one color each for plastic and metal builds, respectively.

This mockup looks like metal wristwatches of old.

The traditional closure nevertheless takes a little time to adjust.

Round watch faces are coveted in the wearables world.

The rubberized band on this version seemed comfortable enough during our brief try-on.

Reddish-orange accents help give this variation its sporty appeal.

The round face and smaller screen help Alcatel's watch look balanced on smaller wrists.

Instead of using a micro-USB charging port or clip-on mechanism, you just peel back the end of the strap to reveal a male USB charger.
