The 2014 Chevrolet Impala launched today at the 2012 New York auto show flaunting a new design that mixes equal parts Camaro and Malibu.
Chevrolet wanted the Impala to look "long and windswept." To my eye, it's more "beefy and hunkered down," but it wears its chunkiness well.
The Impala will be offered with a choice of three engines. In order from most powerful to most efficient, they are a 3.5-liter V-6, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, and a 2.4-liter e-Assist engine.
A cadre of driver aid features will be available to Impala drivers, including adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic alerts.
Classic Impala design cues, such as the Impala badge on the C-pillar, blend with Chevrolet's modern design language.
There's plenty of space in the large sedan's trunk for luggage, golf bags, or...bodies?
Inside, the Impala grows up with an attractive leather interior, contrast stitching, Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment and telematics system, and cupholders big enough to hold a tall coffee mug. But is it me or does the steering wheel look like it's on upside down?
Like most modern cars making luxury pretenses, the Impala is available with projector headlamps and LED parking and daytime running lights.
The 2014 Impala will be offered in LS, LT, and LTZ models and will go on sale in early 2013.
Chevrolet also displayed a selection of classic Impala models, highlighting the best moments of the nameplate's history.
