Warner Bros. Entertainment

Die-hard Wonder Woman fans have been eagerly waiting years to see their favorite Amazonian princess from the popular DC Comics lasso villains and fight for justice.

A few peeks have finally arrived, as actress Gal Gadot has posted a photo of herself on her Twitter and Facebook in her superhero outfit while Warner Bros. has finally announced that production on the 2017 "Wonder Woman" film is officially underway in the UK, France and Italy, reports Forbes.

The movie, which will be directed by Patty Jenkins, has also had more of its cast members revealed by Warner Bros., which in addition to Gadot playing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman will include Chris Pine ("Star Trek") as her love interest, Captain Steve Trevor.

Other members of the cast (whose roles are still unannounced) include Robin Wright ("House of Cards"), Danny Huston ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), David Thewlis ("Harry Potter" series), Ewen Bremner ("Snowpiercer"), Saïd Taghmaoui ("American Hustle"), Elena Anaya ("The Skin I Live In") and Lucy Davis ("Shaun of the Dead").

Gadot emphasizes how long it took to finally bring the Wonder Woman character to the big screen, posting her costume photo with the caption "Almost 75 years in the making...Wonder Woman is underway." Before this film, for decades fans have had to be content with re-watching the '70s "Wonder Woman" TV show starring Lynda Carter and various animated films.

Those hoping for a wider look at Diana Prince's world also recently got a quick look at other characters from the movie.

Just last week, we saw photos of "Wonder Woman" actors Pine and Taghmaoui dressed in 1940s-period costumes, as well as their actor chairs. Both photos were accidentally posted then removed from Taghmaoui's Instagram account.

"Wonder Woman" is due to hit theaters worldwide on June 23, 2017, however, fans will be seeing Wonder Woman much sooner in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" -- directed by Zack Snyder -- in March 2016.
