Great performance, great vale for the price. Very nice looking laptop.

Comes loaded with programs and software that should be removed. Keyboard could be more robust, and takes some getting used to.

I bought this computer about 4 months ago and have never had a problem with it. I'm a college student that needed a second computer to take with me and do work, keep me in touch with friends, and sometimes show movies, listen to music etc. while on campus.
Let's start with what it does well that I really like.
Size and weight are good for campus. 6 pounds isn't too heavy. Full size keyboard lets me work comfortable while typing my many papers.
Memory is good for me. 160GB is more than sufficient for what I do. It also has SD and Pro-Duo card slots. 4 USB ports for flash drives and peripheral tools. Comes with more standards; headphone jack, audio-in, and external monitor jack.
DVD player/burner. I haven't used the burner, but I have watched a couple movies on it. The screen shows the pictures very well.
Battery life. I usually get somewhere around 3 hours out of a charge before I plug it in (that is running on power saver of course). The power cord is a good length, I've never been left wishing for more room.
Wi-Fi is very good. It also comes with Ethernet ports. Although that may be quaint now, I did have to use them to set up a home network once, so they are useful.
And of course it is inexpensive. I'm on a budget here, I can't afford one of Sony's super laptops. I paid $700 at Best Buy. I had apparently just missed a sale that had it at $550. But it went on sale the week after I bought it again for $550. Since it was within 30 days of purchase, I took my receipt back and they gave me the difference back on my card. I love that they do that. So keep your eyes peeled for deals on this computer, they're out there.
Now for stuff that I wish was a bit better:
The screen is glossy. I like to work outside and the glossy screen makes it hard to see. I'm pretty sure there are screen over-lays available to help though.
The lid is plastic, not metal. I haven't had a functional problem with this, but I'm just nervous that something might hurt it.
The speakers are weak. In a louder room, the speakers have a hard time competing. The sound card is good because the headphone sound great, but the actual speakers aren't the best.
Sony does put a lot of bloat-ware on their machines, that's just what Sony does. It is annoying, but easily fixed by deleting it. Sony also puts stickers and claims on it that aren't true, at least in my case. It has a sticker for "dlna" which seems to be a kind of bluetooth connectivity device. I was excited for it, but found out that my computer isn't capable of bluetooth connection.
If you're looking for a power-house computer this isn't it. This is a great second computer for you to take on trips, to class, to the office. It is great for doing work and it is still good at doing fun stuff like videos and pictures. If that's what you want in a computer then this is a rock-solid choice for you.

I bought this laptop because I needed something for my mother to access the internet and she really doesn't need a lot of processing power. This laptop happened to fit the bill. It comes loaded with a lot of preloaded software that she doesn't need but I'm sure thats what kept the price point low. The first couple days the laptop worked great. Then my mom calls me up saying she can't get on the internet. So I went to fix it and trouble shoot the prob she explained to me while she was surfing the web it just went out. so I now see that when I switch the wireless toggle switch on there is no light that comes on to let you know that the wireless is engaged. so I'm returning this laptop. My advice for sony, stick to developing a prosumer grade product not consumer grade.
