This is the kind of fuel-cell product we've been waiting for: a laptop with a fuel cell instead of a chemical battery. At CES, Panasonic is showing a new fuel cell-equipped machine. It's said to get 20 hours out of a single tank of fuel (about 6 3/4 ounces), and the power hardware is half the size of comparable devices today (though still a bit bigger than a typical battery pack).

The new cell uses methanol, and it has the capability to throttle the flow of the fuel depending on the power needs of the device; this is said to improve runtime. Fuel will be provided in cartridges, although Panasonic has not determined how they will be sold or if they will be disposable or returnable for recharge.
