Samsung unveils the "world's largest" plasma TV
January 7, 2005; 11:20 a.m.
![]() The product: CES is all about "mine's bigger" bragging rights in the consumer electronics world, and Samsung's 80-inch plasma flat panel is guaranteed to induce feelings of inadequacy in the Korean giant's rivals. If the 6.7-foot screen isn't big enough for you, don't fret: Samsung also has a 102-inch model in the pipeline.
The prospects: It's a nice showpiece, but don't take out that second mortgage just yet. Wall-size models such as this 80-inch monster often garner plenty of press at trade shows but never seem to make it to your local electronics superstore. Fortunately, a more realistically sized (and priced) 50-inch model, the HPR5072, is scheduled for an April debut for $6,499. By John P.
