This group wants the FTC to officially probe YouTube.
What this group really wants is for the FTC to impose fines on Google.
So this really comes down to parental consent.
If you're under 13, you're technically not even supposed to be on YouTube at all, but kids under 13 use YouTube.
And when they do that, YouTube collects things like geolocation, phone numbers, and they're doing it all without parental consent.
The law in question is called COPPA
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and that is for companies that know that they are, that they've got children using their services, and it limits the types of data that they collect.
It has to do with things like parental consent and privacy policies.
YouTube has been criticized a lot for what they have shown kids.
They have a service called YouTube Kids that last year was showing kids inappropriate videos.
Things that are disturbing, like Mickey Mouse getting run over by a car.
They've had cases where Children were in video's and people were leaving sexualized comments on them.
And so this is something that YouTube has been dealing with for a while.
They have said that they are trying to fix the problem.
One thing that they did is they added 10 thousand content moderators.
They said they've been working on On artificial intelligence to try to kind of weed out his videos.
So it's a big problem that they've been facing, but they have said that they are trying to deal with it.
It's not directly related to the complaint, but it is indicative of the broader challenge that YouTube has faced when dealing with children.
Well this is special because it's Google.
And Google is one of the most powerful companies in the world.
And whatever Google and Facebook and Apple do then the rest of the industry follows.
So it'll be a big deal if they end up investigating.
