Worst products of 2011
Youve probably never heard of these products and heres
why.
We love lists around here at the Top 5 studios: Best, most
popular, hottest, all various barometers of the tech business we
live, breathe and we love.
But todays is a very different list: The
products that make us wonder if we shouldnt have become
cooks or truck drivers instead.
Im B.C. with the Top 5 Worst
Rated Products of 2011.
I mean, were talking crap.
#5 is the Bigstream
The idea is good: Wireless transmission of audio/video from your
Apple device to your home entertainment rig.
Thats great if
youre OK with interference, discoloration, static, and nothing
better than composite video -- you know, the old yellow RCA
connector.
Oh, and the dongle that plugs into your Apple device
is very likely going to be larger than your Apple device.
Pass.
Wed rather run a long patch cord across the living room.
#4 is the Acer Aspire X1920-UR20P
I feel bad picking on a desktop, theyre so sad and forgotten.
But
that wont stop me.
About the ONLY good thing we had to say
about the Aspire X1920 is that it has an unobtrusive case design.
Not off to a roaring start here.
Beyond that we found it to be a a
poorly configured, overpriced budget desktop with little to
recommend it. So, we dont.
#3 is the Razer Ferox Mobile Gaming Speakers
These are speakers to connect to you mobile gaming device,
which would seem to make it a lot less mobile.
But thats quickly
rectified once you hear them, hate them, unplug them and stick
with your earbuds.
We did liek the fact these tuck nicely into the
nlcude travel case, makes it easier to ship them to your winning
bidder on eBay.
#2 is the Coby Kyros (3.3 / 1.5 / Poor)
OK, now were into tablets, not category rendered more WTFs
from us than this one in 2011.
The Coby Kyros is an Android
tablet that we have to give some props to for its low - and odd --
price of $246.99 as well as its HDMI output, MicroSD slot and
camera.
But you wont enjoy using an of that sicne teh screen is
awful, touch reponse or more like fist reponse, the whole thing is
bulky and theres no Flash support.
That;s nt the oart of the iPad
you wnat to emulate.
Foruntatley battery life is lousy too, so you
wont suffer this piece of garbage for long.
Before we get to #1 worst piece of electronics, lets stop off in the
CNET garage: Our worst rated car of 2011 was the Scion xB.
Surprisingly stable when cornering is something youd expect in
a jitney review, but there it is as one of the few bright spots on
this car.
It has a 4-speed automatic, just like a car from the 80s,
and a maddening Bluetooth phone system that guides you with a
series of beeps when you set it up or use it -- theres no screen
or display or work with.
Its like being click-trained.
The rest of
the tech is no better and for a car aimed at tech savvy youth,
thats not reading the room well.
#1 is the Maylong Universe M-150 (3.0 / 1.5 / Poor)
This is the product that broke Donald Bell.
After he reviewed it, I
noticed he started to drink too much.
Shave infrequently.
Mutter
harsh obscenties to himself.
And who could blame him?
Screen: Warped.
Battery life: Short.
Interface: Infuriating.
PC Connection: Not really.
Boot time: Slow.
Android Market: Nope.
The Maylong M-150 is about the cheapest 7-inch Android tablet
we found, $130 list or much less today at the Goodwill store.
Where its been sitting.
For more like this, almost all of which showing you the stuff you
should get instead these abominations, go to top5.cnet.com.
