Upgrading to a new iPhone or iPad and wanna sell your old device?
Here's how to wipe it the right way, to avoid data falling into the wrong hands.
Before we start, we need to take out the SIM card.
Make sure to backup all your contents including contacts.
And sign out of services like social media and email.
Now, all Apple devices that support iOS5 onwards come with hardware encryption when you set a passcode.
Now, this means, when you reset the phone, the encryption key is also wiped, which makes it really difficult for anyone to try and recover your data.
Step one.
Before we start the reset process, we're gonna need to turn off services, starting with Find my iPhone.
Do this by heading to settings, iCloud, Find my iPhone.
Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
Step two.
Sign out of iCloud completely.
Head to Settings, iCloud, and find sign out at the bottom of the page.
For iOS7 devices choose delete account.
If you delete all your data manually without first signing out of iCloud, you'll also delete that data on iCloud itself, which is something you definitely don't want to do.
Step 3- turn off and sign out of other services like iMessage and your Apple ID.
For iMessage.
Go to setting.
Messages and toggle the iMessage option.
For your apple ID.
Go to setting.
iTunes and appstore and tap your Apple ID e-mail address and then signout.
Step four start the wipe process.
Go to setting.
General.
Reset.
Erase all content and settings.
Confirm the selection.
Step five, the wipe process will now complete.
Remember, if you've registered your Apple device, then you'll need to remove that device by going to supportprofile.apple.com.
Those are the steps you need to take to safely wipe your old iOS device, if you want to find out full instructions.
For Android and Windows phone as well, head to seen it.
