What will Microsoft show at E3 2015? - GameSpot's The Lobby

Gaming Hardware
[MUSIC] Hey, what's up? Monday, June 15 at 9:30 AM will be the first of the big three council manufacturers taken to the stage. Microsoft going to show off all of their hot first party video games, maybe show us some new technology, maybe show a box with the Xbox one that doesn't have Some of their old technology in it. We're gonna talk about all that right now. Justin Haywall, Kim VanOrr, Chris Waters. Microsoft! Remember that tweeted a couple of years ago and they fed off stuff and they spent the past while just reel it in just take backsy, take backsy. [LAUGH] What are you guys looking forward to this year? First off I got with games that they are going to talk about. Let's talk about Halo 5. Chris Waters. Halo 5. Yeah, we've had the multiplayer beta earlier this year. They've been teasing these super cryptic story trailers, and we're definitely gonna get a huge showcase of that. My, I feel like I think I'm gonna feel awkward when I watch it when the 343 Industries folks walk out to talk about Halo. Are they gonna give a tip of the hat to the master chief collection situation? [LAUGH] It'll probably just be some line, they'll move on to guardians, but yeah, [UNKNOWN] are sending a master chief to be kind of the not a hero, or maybe they just It's like not just a shining bastion of Mm. Alien killery that he [LAUGH] Has always been. We know we're gonna have their campaign, we know they're gonna have the multiplayer sort of competitive sports focus that we've seen in the beta. Is there gonna be a middle ground somewhere? Is there gonna be something separate cooperatively? Is there gonna be some kinda Spartan ops thing? Is there gonna be some sort of third pillar of Halo 4 that we see at the press conference? Yeah. I guess we'll find out. Kevin Vanorg, are you excited for Rise of the Planet of the Doom Raiders? Is that what the name of it is? I'm hoping they're going to rebrand it. This is a timed exclusive, we keep forgetting to mention. Reminded [UNKNOWN] for the Xbox One. Tomb Raider, the reboot. What a fantastic reboot that was. Yeah, totally. [UNKNOWN] sequel? Well yeah, take a look at this. Everybody in the office knows I have this thing about Snow. Yeah. All right, so, Yeah. Always in the bathroom with your credit card just chop, chop, chop. Yeah, that's me all right. Every surface lightly dusted. [LAUGH] But no seriously, I love snow so the teaser gets me, Shush, you. Every time. The trailer gets to me because I get the chills. Chills. I'm like, there's gonna be more Lara. More Lara Craft is always good as far as I'm concerned. Plus it gives a real indication of tomb raiding. Yes, true. Who knew? And that's the thing that I get the most from that. We've now rebooted a character, a world and so on. And so now let's get up there in the snow. Let's [CROSSTALK] It's raiding some damn tombs up there. Look at this place. Looks pretty pretty. So it's going to be like a Zelda structure right? She goes from dungeon to dungeon through a hub world of some kind? You know what? I would be very good with that actually. Unlikely, but I'd be good with that. It's been a couple years since they released The first reboot of Tomb Raider as well, so they could have been working on anything. And moving swiftly on, because we've got a bunch of games to cover here. Gears of War, we noticed something coming out of there. It sounds like we're likely going to see some HD re-release of the first one and probably a new one as well. Those are the rumors I keep hearing. Yeah, there has to be an HD re-release of one of these. I mean, we've seen So much popularity, so much support behind HD re-releases of games that people know and love. And what better time to do that than before you announce a new sequel? Here's a chance to relive it, this world, this game that you loved. We know Black Tusk is working on something Gears-related. But, what's it going to be? what form is it going to take? Is it going to be a whole new entry into the gears franchise? No matter what it's going to be a third-person tutor. I could see them doing the Halo Comet of all Denver 3 out this fall. Halo of 4 out next fall. Like, years of HD remaster next fall. New gears out next, I cannot imagine. That they would not show a new gears. What would you be excited for, would you like a new set of people, or set in the future, or go back to the Pendulum Wars, because they kept taking about that during the first three games. Yeah, the Pendulum Wars, which were the wars between humans before the whole locus Emergence Day. Yeah, Emergence Day, I think that could be interesting but, then again, I also kind of like the asymmetry of character model and that kind of balance within the Gears world. I have really no preference except a whole new set of characters for sure. Maybe if it's passed, referencing the legendary heroes, Marcus Phoenix. Marcus Phoenix Statue. Those guys. Statue of Dom's wife, looking all weird. Yeah, I think that would be cool. That'd be pretty great. See, I'm thinking top-down surface exclusive. Oh really? That's really where I'm at. Perfect! Well how about stable legends then? Oh how about Fable Edge. Looking forward to that. Four on one? No. [LAUGH] I played some last year, at last year's E3. Not looking forward to that one? No. It didn't capture me at all. It feels like it misses the purpose of the world. Mm. In the sense that there was no world building whatsoever that I really experienced. It just seemed like Hey, people like this coop thing that the kids are doing, so maybe we should get in on that. Here's a brand. What IP do we have, to do it? Oh, Fable. You know what other IP Microsoft has? Crackdown. Down. Oh yeah. Take another swing at that, you looking forward to the new crackdown? That feels to me like one Yes. of the games of the early XBox 360. Yes. Crackdown was a real like, oh you can do this in games? Oh yeah. It's just a game where I climb buildings and collect orbs and then kind of do missions every once in a while. The interesting thing is that we saw a tech demo which was purportedly for Crackdown which showed a huge building being demolished. Is that something that they're going to introduce into the Crackdown universe? Are we going to see huge destructible building environments and that kind of thing? That seems like a logical extension of superheroes in a huge open city. I think that I would be really excited about Crackdown if they, like you said Danny, recapture the thrill of Crackdown. Which was just leaping around and grabbing these orbs, which was so much based on just the movement powers of this superpowered human. Of course, we've had tons of games that have done that since. So I don't know how exactly you'd do that without some different, some tricky, locomotion stuff or whatnot. I would like to recapture that kind of joy of exploration. And you need that extra stuff because the original Cracktown was kind of bare, just by any standard. And then Cracktown 2 was just like Oh it's more of that. So you really need something extra. You need some kind of push, I think. Lot of Microsoft leaning on established IPs. A new one though that they've been thrown for a couple of years. Quantum Break. What are you looking forward to in relation to that, Justin? So who's the developer on that? This is Remedy's, this is the Max Payne crowd. So Max Payne just, it had a great story. Like, that was one of the things that I enjoyed the most about it. Like, you don't see a lot of those noir games, and even though we haven't see a lot of this, like It seems like they're creating a really interesting world. And no matter what that team creates, worlds that I want to explore, which is the most important part of the game. When they first showed this op, there seemed to be a lot of what would you call it, like cross media nonsense happening. With the television show, it seems like they've reeled that back quite a lot. They haven't really mentioned the television show. I think it's safe to say that it's still in development. And now with the delay of this til next year, It would be weird to me for them to just, cuz this one E3 showing, and then they showed another section of just actual game play. It would be weird for me if they didn't at least tease or show some imagery from the TV production. Yeah. At least give us some sort of implication or idea of what that is. Let's run through a couple of more games here that we may or may not hear of before we get into the juicy hardware stuff. Scale bound. Anyone else seen that bad boy? Oh, yeah, yeah!- that last year that- That's the kind of work that reminds me of dragon's dogma. Maybe a little bit- Yeah! platinum games have a pretty good record over the last couple of years. Yeah they do great action games. But just big sentences that will look really fun that'll look really good but. And Battletoads? I'm- Any takers? Going once. Oh god. This could be awesome. If it's a Project Spark kind of thing, I'm gonna be ridiculously disappointed. Right. Conker, you get to play as Conker in a world that he doesn't exist in, and doesn't make any sense, Battletoads. But I don't know what would make sense, maybe even just an HD remake? But yeah, I'd play that. I just watched this YouTube video called Kung Fury which was just over the top 80s. He's basically kick karate fighting a arcade machine that just keeps flipping him the bird. If Battletoads goes totally over the top, just that kind of 90s cartoon hero thing, and really sorta skewers that or parodies that, Then I'm interested. Another game that was teased around the same time as Scalebound was Phantom Dust. And Darkside Games has said that they're off the project on that. We haven't seen that confirmation from Microsoft that it's cancelled or anything. So we don't think it's cancelled, we saw their work in progress. We saw a game that they put together And not something that Microsoft was looking forward to, or not what they expected of the project. So it doesn't sound like it's cancelled, it just sounds like maybe they're shifting developers, they don't want to get rid of it. We might see, I actually wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything about About it at this E3. Yeah. They're gonna sit on it and wait till later. Bunch of games coming out to talk about from Microsoft. We could talk about 4-6 for a while, but we won't because it's just gonna be the sixth [UNKNOWN] game, so let's talk about [LAUGH] Hey, I like Driving [UNKNOWN] as well, let's move on. Let's talk about hardware a little bit. There was that leak last week. I remember there was a reporting on GS News all about the controller. Justin what's the latest on that. Has Microsoft said whether that's true or false? They do not comment on rumors and speculation. But they look forward to us watching their [UNKNOWN] preference conference, right? It would not be outside the realm of possibility. I mean it's not Super exciting, but I mean finally have a good controller where you don't have to have an adapter for your headset. That'd be nice. Like you just use a regular headset. Yes of course it's nice I'm so glad that's actually the thing they're doing. But it's also just another jab in the ribs of like hey remember when you paid for that extra thing. Cause we made our thing not do all the things it should fricking do? Yeah. Ha, buy this idiot. It's part of this sort of two year long Scale backing. Another thing we're going to look forward to is that they're going to, this whole Windows 10 integration stuff they've been pushing across their hardware board as being reigned back as well. So, we're going to see a new UI, do you think? Yea, that's one of the more exciting things. It's weird it feels like Windows 10 could be a really good OS. It seems like their treating this The way that they should have been treating Windows for the past couple years. It's going to be something that's open. It's going to be across all of your devices, and something that integrates with Xbox. They've been very cagey about exactly how this is going to work, but they're dream, this vision for this, is that not only will you be able to play... X-Box games on your PC. Eventually, you'll be able to play any PC games that you have through there onto your X-Box, and that'll work in tandem in some way. Like, that's actually really cool. I think that's the splash they need to make, tech wise at the show, is talking about that stuff. I mean, they might introduce, they have the new controller, they might introduce a new console form factor. Who knows. New U I, new controller, new Just new sku [UNKNOWN]. Yep, throw a terabyte in there or something. We saw Sony leaked out that they're going terabyte on their built in models. But yeah, that kind of activity, that kind of streaming, that sort of game streaming has been a big story the past couple E3s. You know with Sony's efforts to cross play and all that stuff, I think that Microsoft needs to get in that game and show Not just talk about it, but show some concrete stuff. You know, what Jeff was talking about sounds really exciting like oh, that's like my PC games on the XBOX 1. That's going to work perfectly. That sounds great, but look. I've been there. I have a Surface. I have Windows phones. I have an XBOX 360 and an XBOX 1. I was in this ecosystem No. No. I mean is this is like, I do not get excited at this point for a, oh, an interface that goes across all of these devices. I already have that and it's awful. [LAUGH] Didn't work with that PSP either, with their cross media situation. Yeah, so I'm okay if they have some similar UI elements, but otherwise Keep that stuff all separate. Interaction, yes that's good. Don't you want to get on, you know, Microsoft Office, maybe some Word, maybe some excel. [CROSSTALK] Clippy pops off into the corner. [UNKNOWN] it's just so kind of like, half-hearted all through the Windows 8 System I don't know that I get excited about a UI across platforms anymore [CROSSTALK] Kind of Microsoft in a nutshell. We've got a lot of exciting stuff, but nobody really trusts that they can put it off. So hey, I guess we'll see in two weeks time. Tuesday of E3 We'll be showing off the conference live on gamespot.com. It's at 9:30 AM Pacific time. So make sure you tune in to the site then to watch it and watch all of the information leaked out by the good people of Microsoft. Hopefully stuff that they'll actually stick to this time live in front of us. And we'll have all our news, post And reactions to it on the site as well. [INAUDIBLE] [MUSIC]
