>> Hello, this is Dong Ngo for CNET.com, and today we check out the new Mybook World Edition NAS server from Western digital. Unlike the name, this device has nothing to do with traveling. Rather, it built to stay at home. The best thing about this NAS server is that it's very easy to set up and use. If you use Windows Vista on Mac, you can just plug it into the router or directly into the network port of the computer. If you use Windows XP however, the device come with a very easy to use set-up software that helps you connect via exactly three mouse clicks. The Mybook World Edition comes with storage, and you can choose between one terabyte or two terabyte versions. The hard drive is, however, not easily replaceable. The NAS server has the gigabyte network port on the back together with the on/off switch and a USB port. On the front, there's a sleek-looking standard LED that emit white light, which I like a lot. If you don't, however, you can turn it off using the device WAP interface. The WAP interface also allows for further configuring the device, such as setting up user account, media servers, and the remote access. The Mybook World Edition uses [inaudible] net for the over the Internet access, which we found very disappointing. It doesn't work as intended. What is absolutely not disappointing, however, is also the most important thing, the device throughput performance. In CNET Lab's testing, the Mybook World Edition offers speed that's comparable to some external hard drives. By far, it's much faster than most NAS server we've ever reviewed. All in all, we find this device a perfect for home user who just needs something that is fast and works right out of the box. Savvy user, however, might want to look elsewhere for other options. You can get the Mybook World Edition now for $230.00 for the one terabyte version, or $450.00 for the terabyte version. For more information on the product, check out the full review at CNET.com. Now you can also find other NAS option that better fit your needs. Again, my name is Dong Ngo, and this has been the First Look at the Mybook World Edition NAS server from Western Digital.
