Vivo X50 Pro First Impressions
This is the X50 PRO, one of three forms that make up vivos new marquee line, which is positioning as a professional photography flagship.
I've been using the phone for over a week now and here are my thoughts on it so far.

At first glance this might look like your typical 2020 flagship OLED screen track, 5g track, large battery and speedy refresh rates check and check.
But what sets this phone apart is its gimbal technology which vivo left out of the higher end x 50 Pro Plus and the base x 50 Pro.
Pico says it made that decision because it wanted to make its gimbal camera tech widely available.
But it also had to make some compromises to drive down the price to an accessible level like using the Snapdragon 765G chipset instead of the most advanced Snapdragon 865.
To me, it seems like a smart compromise because the chip handled pretty much everything I threw at it.
But back to that gimbal does this hyped up tech actually work?

So I spent about a week using the vivo X50 Pro I first tested it in daylight comparing it to the one generation old iPhone XS Max As you can see, there's not much of a difference between the two phones.
Both devices captured stable footage without any obvious jerkiness even while panning the cameras, but the differences were noticeable in darker conditions.
Here's video from the iPhone that I took while running.
You can see it's obviously very shaky.
Now here it is on the vivo you can see how buttery smooth is and you can't Really even tell that I'm running.
Bottom line, the gimbal tech works but if you find yourself shooting frequently in the day or while you're walking at a regular pace then you won't be taking much advantage of its gimbal system.
Either way, it's a fantastic option to have So let's talk about the rest of the camera setup.
There are four cameras on the phones rear as well as the 48 megapixel main lens you'll find an eight megapixel ultra wide lens and an eight megapixel periscope camera.
There's also a 13 megapixel portrait telephoto snapper In general, the X50 Pro made it easy to take crisp and vibrant photos that captured my surroundings wonderfully.
I'll have to spend more time with the phone, but so far I've noticed that in certain lighting conditions say during sunset for example, photos are more saturated and punched up than in real life.
By comparison, the iPhone 10Xs max captured photos that were more true to life.
Here's some photos taken indoors with a lot of natural light coming in through the window.
Again you can see how the vivo x 50 Pro perked up the color, In this case the green color of the avocado while on the iPhone Xs Max, it's a more subdued shade.
Again, this was more representative of what my breakfast actually looked like before I devoured it.
Whichever style you prefer is likely a matter of personal preference.
I personally prefer photos that capture an experience as authentically as possible.
Another star camera feature is the periscope zoom lens.
This is the much loved feature that we first saw on Huawei's P30 Pro.
And it's something iPhones still don't have but might be getting in 2022, if recent reports citing a reliable Apple analyst are accurate.
Zooming in five times, I got this glorious orange shot of Hong Kong's sunset.
This is the original photo taken on default settings.
Now let's check out the vivo 60 times zoom.
You're looking at a photo of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour taken on default settings and you can see the skyline and the buildings on the other side and as I zoom in more.
Obviously you see more detail of the buildings that lined the area across the harbour but using 60 times zoom, I was able to zoom into a sign on one of the hotels on the opposite side of the harbour.
I couldn't see that sign with my naked eye and I didn't even know it existed until I zoomed in.
With the phone, so the range you can get on this camera is pretty extraordinary and I'd love to compare it to Samsung space zoom one of these days.
On the front there's a 32 megapixel selfie camera which took photos capturing an excruciating amount of detail.
Beauty filters were actually part of the default settings.
There was even a makeup for men setting that very surprisingly was turned on as well on default settings It did standard things that I have seen quite often on Chinese phones like enlarging and brightening eyes as well as smoothening the skin.
Now moving on to display you've got a six and a half inch Amla display with 90 hertz refresh rates vivos funtouch operating system runs on Android 10 and it's clean and easy to get used to.
You can also see Vivo uses round circular icons, which I prefer to the rigidness of square icons.
And it's also got dark mode.
Well, one thing that took a bit of getting used to was answering calls.
Because to answer a call, you actually swipe down on the Vivo X50 Pro and I'm used to swiping up in order to answer the call.
So, initially, In the first couple of hours, I was actually accidentally hanging up on people.
No big deal and I'm not sure if there's a way to change this but it might take a bit of time to get used to.
Now moving on to battery life, the vivo x 50 Pro has a 4315 milliamp hour battery which.
Easily lasted me the whole day on default settings.
I guess I'm pretty much your average user.
My message my family and friends using WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
I read the news on various news apps, listen to music on Spotify and watch a couple of YouTube videos.
So that's kind of my daily activity.
So overall battery life was strong, and I was Happy with it.
When I was using the Bose 30 watt flash charger I was actually able to fill up the battery in less than an hour and that was 52 minutes to be precise and that was great, but not as fast as OPPOS's Pricier flagship to find X2 Pro which charges its battery in just 30 minutes.
What was incredible though was when it revitalized a dead battery by nearly 60% in just 15 minutes.
So that about wraps up my first impressions of the vivo X50 Pro but I'd love to hear from you are you interested in buying this phone Share with me on the comments section below but if you have more questions follow me on Twitter or Instagram and let's talk.
Well thanks for watching.
Stay safe, stay healthy and I'll catch you next time.
