Twitter live streaming (sort of) comes to iOS, Android
Tech Industry
Live stream from Twitter, sort of.
Twitter has updated its iOS and Android apps to allow anyone to live stream using Periscope.
You'll see a new option when you go to compose a tweet.
Next to the photo and video options, you'll see a live button.
When you click it, Twitter bounces you out of Twitter and into the Periscope app.
Then you can live stream on Periscope like you're used to.
When you are done streaming, guess what, you're still stuck in the Periscope app.
You are not brought back to the Twitter app, which is the app where you started this whole thing in the first place.
Also, if you do not have the Periscope app installed you will see a little message asking you to download it.
This is definitely not the same as Facebook live video.
When you go to update your status on Facebook, there's the options to share a live video.
From there you greet it with a little welcome screen explaining, you're about to broadcast some into the whole wide world and then you can go live using the Facebook app.
When you're done streaming on Facebook you sent back to your news feed.
The Twitter approach to live streaming looks a bit disjointed compared to Facebook's.
The Periscope and Twitter experiences are still two distinct things which might be unappealing to some.
That's it for this tech news update.
