>> Hey, I'm Don Bell, senior editor for digital audio
and MP3. And today we're taking a first look at the
Trevor Balis Ecomedia Player. It is a $350 MP3 player
that also does video, FM, line in recording, voice
recording, photo viewer, and it even has a flash light.
The reason it is $350 is because it is a wind-up -- MP3
player. So this is a device that's really geared
towards people who are going extreme camping or for
people who really want to prepare for the apocalypse.
Aside from the nifty of being able to charge your MP3
player using the hand crank, it's really not the most
advanced MP3 player we've come across. The interface is
a little clunky, the buttons aren't very responsive, the
screen is a little dim, it's a 1.8 inch screen that is,
you know, crisp, but still the dimness really is a
drawback. The rated battery life for the Ecomedia
Player is about 20 hours of audio playback. That's
going to be off of a full charge that you can either get
by cranking it, or you can also charge the Ecomedia
Player off of the built-in USB connection. And it comes
with cell phone charger adapters that you can plug into
the USB port. So the Ecomedia Player only comes with 2
gigabytes of built in memory, which for $350 is not a
great deal. The good news is that there is an SD card
slot on the side so that you can bring your own memory
on SD cards, load up SD cards with music and movies and
all that stuff, and bring it with you. I'm Don Bell,
and that was a first look at the Trevor Balis Ecomedia
