Toyota's new Supra driven on road and track

This is it.
It's the new super, the car that many people including myself have been eagerly awaiting for the better part of two decades.
We're all going to have to wait a little bit longer to See what it looks like without all this camouflage on it.
But I can at least tell you what it's like to drive.
Because that's exactly what I just finished doing.
First, let's start with the basics.
The new super shares many fundamental things with its predecessor, including a front engine, rear-drive layout.
And Up front a three liter inline six motor.
How much power will that motor produce?
Toyota's not saying just yet, except that it'll be more than 300 horses, and after my drive I'd put it somewhere north of 350, and what about weight?
Again, Toyota only gave a vague indication of something less than 1500 kilograms.
That's under 3,300 pounds.
So I can't share much in the way of numbers but we drive cars and not spreadsheets.
After my brief time in the saddle of this machine, I was left with a very good impression indeed.
It started with a few stints on the historic Jarama track outside of Madrid, a remarkable circuit that was a real test to the balance Of the new Super.

Here, the Super was impressively balanced in neutral, but far from a hard-edged racecar.
And if that's what you were expecting it to be, remember that the Super has never been the bonkers, hardcore racer that you remember from Fast and the Furious, or Gran Turismo.
Sure many tuners made them that way.
But the Super on its own has always been more of a sports tourer.
And that doesn't change here.
The impression was only solidified by my time on the street.
Crossing some spectacular roads and the hills outside of Madrid where the Super again proved eager and poised at all speeds.
But yet on extended stretches on the highway It proved comfortable enough to cover big miles.
Yeah, okay, the eight-speed automatic will be a disappointment for some and the six-cylinder motor relies on some digital augmentation to make it for the lack of exhaust note.
Plus the brake thrill is a little to vague for my legging but overall, I really enjoyed my time in this hugely anticipated car
[MUSIC]
When will we know more.
Like how much is this actually gonna cost.
Well Toyota says the wraps will be finally pulled off Supra sometime in the first half of 2019, so stay tuned.
