Toyota takes a stab at making the Camry truly sporty
The days of boring and bland Camrys are over, at least according to Toyota, which has taken the wraps off an all new ace generation model here at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
Visually the new Camry is lower, wider and curvier with a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile.
The sport SE and XSE go a step further with more aggressive bumpers, rocker panels, mesh grill insert, rear lift spoiler and [UNKNOWN].
User.
Inside, designers also aim to try more eye pleasing design while remaining practical and intuitive.
Redesigned front seats are more supportive and comfortable, while refinement is up with more soft touch materials covering major surfaces like the dash, center console and doors.
Toyota's latest in tune system handles infotainment duties with standard navigation 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot capabilities, a JBL audio system, and ten inch color Heads-Up Display will be offered.
Missing from the options list are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
And for safety See a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, radar cruise control, lane departure alert while steering in fifth and auto high beams come on every 2018 Camry.
While blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alerts are standard on a higher trim.
A longer, more rigid platform underpins the Camry's sportier looks.
Along with a re-engineered double wishbone rear suspension and a lower center of gravity.
Those updates have Toyota promising substantially improved driving dynamics, which I look forward to experiencing myself when I get to drive it hopefully soon.
A new 2.5 liter four cylinder with an 8-speed automatic gear box serves as a base drive train.
But no output figures are available.
Toyota is just saying they'll be more powerful and return best-in-class fuel economy.
For context, the current Camry four cylinder is rated at 178 horsepower.
A 3.5 liters v16 continues as the engine upgrade option.
The Hybrids get some updates, too, with the new sport mode fine setter solaration and quick incernuity gear changes from the continuously variable transmission.
The Hybrid battery packs moves from the trunk to below of your seats to improve handle Sales of the 2018 Toyota Camry begins in the late summer.
Pricing isn't available yet.
But base pricing should be close to the 2017 model.
Which starts at about $23,000.
