>> Apple's MacBook must be making babies because more and more of these laptops keep poppin' up everywhere I go and for a good reason. I'm Brian Tong for cnet.com and we're profiling the pick of the laptop litter from our holiday gift guide, Apple's MacBook. Apple's MacBook is the company's top selling lap top and Apple's signature of clean lines and simple design are written all over it. It has a 13.3 inch widescreen and it comes in two different colors--a shiny white over here or a matte-like finish but you're going to have to dish out a little more cash for the black one. What makes the MacBook line great is that it's loaded with almost everything Apple's high-end MacBook Pro has. Now some of the stand out features are the built-in iSight camera located up top here for video conferencing and the latest MacBooks include 80211-N for the next generation of wireless Internet. You're also get the front row remote to view your multimedia in style and it has a Mag-Safe power adaptor that I'm in love with. I mean it's magnetic, it pops out instantly, and no one will be tripping over your laptop cable ever again. The battery life is also stellar coming in at 3 hours and 36 minutes with our DVD battery drain test so you'll definitely get more doing other tests. Now the MacBook is a consumer friendly laptop that does everything and does it extremely well. You can web surf, work with photos, make music and edit video with relative ease with the iLife software package included; it even can run Windows on it. So what's missing on this laptop? Now if you compare it to the MacBook Pro line, it's missing some of the cutting edge features like using Intel Santa Rosa platform and a backlit LED display. Now two things I wish they would really implement is the backlit keyboard that the MacBook pros have and if they could possible squeeze an express card slot in here, it would really give the MacBook a lot more versatility. Now if you want to use your laptop as a gaming machine or edit video at a higher level, you'll probably want to look at the MacBook Pros with its processing power and better video card. Now MacBook price points range from 1100 to 1500 dollars depending on the model, but when you stack up what it has you're really getting every cent out of that and more. I wasn't kidding when I said these things must be making babies, and I'm sure we'll be seeing even more MacBooks in the wild after the holidays. I'm Brian Tong for cnet.com and the great design and features, the consumer-friendly Apple MacBook has makes it the top pick from our Editors for this year's holiday gift guide.
