Tomorrow Daily 092: Mistletoe drones, Europa in HD, real-life bacon meme, and more

On today's show, NASA releases a remastered image of Europa, and explains why it's such an interesting place. An internet meme becomes a reality, and yes, there's bacon. Bacon involved, I like it. Confirmed. And, of course, a chain restaurant this holiday season has decided to use drones to help you hook up. Up. Which is weird. It's Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet. I love fat dogs, so, I don't wanna hear about the weight loss. But he was, he was really unhealthy. He had to lose weight. Alright. The other, the other stupid idiot Bailey is great, she's fine. She's tiny. She's very skinny and spindly, and very hyper. So. Why are we talking about my dog? We gotta talk about space and robots and stuff. So. Oh you mean good stuff. Yeah. Yeah, let's hit the headlines. [MUSIC] Okay, so. We already have a Rover on Mars. So we've had. We've landed a couple Rovers on Mars. Yeah. Curiosity's there, Spirit, Opportunity. All these great, all these great spacecraft are out there. Out and about. Well Europa is sort of one of the next big destinations for NASA. Okay. And this week NASA released a remastered high definition photo of Europa's surface which is a, a moon for, on Jupiter. It orbits Jupiter. This is one of Jupiter's moons if you weren't familiar with what Europa is. This picture that they released is really cool because it's actually what the human eye would see if you were looking at the planet. Oh, nice! It's all the, all the appropriate colors, which is super awesome and they also released this video, that you're seeing a little bit up here, but I highly recommend you actually go seek it out on NASA's YouTube page and listen to it because. You've got scientists on there explaining why Europa is so fascinating and why it's it's sort of this really cool place of interest that they're kind of gonna try to do a fly by of soon. Not land? Well you gotta do a fly by first. Okay. And then, and then the next step would be logically sending a Rover there, just like we did with Mars. Okay. Okay. So this is really neat. So this image that they made were. Oh, nice. Was created. With images taken by the Galileo spacecraft. Which was put into service. Like, originally, they had sent it out. And, and then decided at one point, like, oh, why don't we just have it, like, orbit Europa? And like, get some photos. And, and do some passes. And figure it out. So this is what it would kinda look like if you were on the surface. You'd be seeing Jupiter right there. Which is kinda crazy. So the image that they released, this HD remastered image. Was take, they were taken by Galileo on the first and 14th orbits. In like '95 and '98. But they combined all these pictures to create this high def remastered image. Which is stunning. And NASA said if you want sort of a key to how this image looks. They said, the areas that are blue and whitish are relatively pure water ice. On the, on the picture. Oh. And then the ones, the spots on the picture that are reddish and brown on Europa are non-ice components in higher concentration. And then the polar regions are a little bit more blue. And the equator regions are a little more white. Which suggests a difference in ice grain size. So bigger, bigger piece ice. Guess from moisture. So yeah. It's a really cool thing, and I really love that they, that they released this sort of high-def, remastered, sort of image of Europa. I just really love that we're able to even do that. Just the idea that like, hey, we're gonna release the HD amazing huge image of a Moon on There you go, citizens. That is so far away in the Solar System that, I mean, it would take us a really long time to go there. It's just really cool. Like, I like that they did that. So how long do you think before. Out there. Well, I know, as far as I'm aware, that they are already planning. They're in the planning stages of, send, doing the fly by, for the robot. And I don't, I forget when that launch is, but it's within I think the next like, five to ten years. So, probably closer to five then ten. Alright. Like, I'm sorry, if anybody was actually at NASA today, and they didn't have that like, written down, but. We can find out more about it just head over to NASA's website. And really you should be going there anyway because it's awesome. Yeah. I concur. Call me me, memes ar coming to life? Oh, okay. So. so this story is just fun, this story is like not a. It, it is going in the future. I, I like those stories. Because you have to. Have you heard of the meme. Press button receive bacon. Oh, yeah. So it's like the hand dryer thing. This is, this is the meme, yeah. So you see this on a hair, hand dryer. Just the images though. It's just, it's supposed to be press a button, dry your hands. Yes [INAUDIBLE]. Well, the internet turned this into push button, receive bacon. Okay. And it's, there's the meme. Hilarious. Well, during a hackathon, a hackathon called a destruction. Okay. It's a 48 hackathon, 48 hour hackathon, [INAUDIBLE]. These clever young students decided that they would make a bacon printer. So press button, receive bacon. Receive bacon. Got it. So they went ahead and they, they did it. And now the whole theme of this hackathon was Light it up! Okay. So this is basically using a laser printed it's a laser printer. Okay. And a laser printer uses a heat source that's underneath the roller- [CROSSTALK] Right, and it fuses- Yes. Okay, I got it, okay. And it heats. From the, from the roller, so the light is essentially heating it. So that's- And, and it's a really hot roller- Yeah. Cuz it has to be hot enough to transfer. Okay. It heats up to, they thought 350, but it ended up going up to 450. Now here they are using it, if you're watching. It seems like just enough to cook some delicious bacon. They're- Oh wow, look at, they're putting it in there. Yep. They're putting it- > There's the bacon. Through the roller, and it comes out on the other side. Semi cooked. Semi-cooked. They're hoping to get it hotter and obviously there's a lot of like four people have to hold the thing up. Yeah. That seems pretty You have to kind of like feed it in. But again with a 48 hour hackathon [CROSSTALK] I'm assuming what we're seeing is like some of the other stuff they put together? Yes. They put together a skull fan for some, I don't know how that A skull fan array, OK. Light it up theme. And then there was a, it was an L-Toys infinite mirror. Okay. Which again. What you saw in the video. Yeah, light it up. So there you go. That's pretty awesome! Yeah, basically they disassembled a laser jet, they used a drive train and the fuser roller to create the heat. To cook the bacon. And then, there you go! I wonder if they'll refine that maybe in a year and have a better system. Maybe we'll see it hit Kickstarter within a year. They seem to be very proud of it. Their whole like website and- I like that. Yeah, it's, it's got 12,000 views on YouTube, and god knows it's gonna have more, so. So I have a question, the hashtag of the day question. Mm-hm, mm-hm. Oh, you've got a hashtag. Okay. Okay, so hashtag of the day would be #tdmeme. Okay. [LAUGH] So, I have to tell you about this story because there, I have some questions about it. I'm not really sure. You go into it with questions. Fair enough. I'm going into this with questions, set of questions. So TGI Friday's in the UK, not here in the US, but in the UK. Uh-huh. Announced that, that they were gonna be throwing some drones in to their dining area. Now, first of all, that seems like it would be really loud. But here's what the drones are doing if you're watching this video. If you're just listening, a drone is carrying a mistletoe, and then hovering it over people to get them It is blowing all of their, their hair and the stuff on the table. I know! Their hair is going crazy. I mean, it's like, they're gonna blow the food around. Like, I don't even know what's going on. Yeah, see, this is like, really inappropriate, okay? So,. They're, they're gonna send drones with mistletoe around as part of their new togetherness marketing campaign, and so. I guess there was some nationwide survey where 53% of UK citizens said that they've kissed under the mistletoe at Christmastime, which is, that's 47% that have not. So they thought was kind of a high percentage. And that, and that they were gonna throw some drones into the restaurant for people to kiss under the mistletoe. Which, okay, first of all, what if I go to like, w, I don't, I m, like, what do you do? With your brother. Yeah, what if you go with like Yeah. your brother or your mom or whatever. It's like weird. So you gotta. You gotta, You gotta just bite the bullet. Do some sweet kissing- It's a law, it's a law, misletoe law I is not negotiable. There are a ton of glaring issues with this. First of all, loud. By the way, if you are listening and not watching, there was also a camera on it, so it liked watched them kiss- Yeah, it would like watch you- Another level of creepiness. And I'm sure they'll make some promotional video about it after the holidays are over. For the campaign but,. I think it's adorable. I think it's adorable, but there are glaring issues. There are glaring issues. First of all, like you said, wind. Like, there's a whole [INAUDIBLE]. You see the girl and her hair is blowing around. It's like it's gonna get in your face. And then it's everywhere. I'm sure people watching know another glaring issue that we're completely missing. I'm sure. Cuz there's a laundry list. For sure. Sound. Sound is a big one. Also, employee interference. Because employees are the ones that are supposed to be piloting these drones. Oh, really? Yeah. I don't think they're that. And then also there's a lot of drunk people at [CROSSTALK] Right. So why don't they just swat in the air and knock it down and hit somebody in the face Come here, you drone. with a drone. But [CROSSTALK] They should make a much. Cuter, like YouTube it. Like, if it wasn't tied around a company. I see it as a commercial. But as a commercial, it's like. Come into t g i Friday's and be together for togetherness. Love is at every table. Yeah. I don't know, I'm not good at this. I, I mean I don't know how you'd want to do it, but I don't think a real life deployment of drones is like, the way to go. Come to t g i Friday's, where we've got. Force you to kiss your girlfriend. But yeah, and it's not like it's not like a first date and you're just not even sure. What if you just ate an onion burger or something. Yeah, don't eat garlic. Number one, Persona Q is out. This is a very anticipated title from I've been hearing. I have not played it yet, but I'm hearing it's very, very good. It's on 3DS. So if you got your 3ds, or maybe you're thinking about one, for yourself for Christmas. Because you're selfish, and you buy stuff for you, kale. Which happens. Yeah, doesn't it Kale. Mm-hm. So yeah. This I've been hearing great, great things. The persona franchise is really, I mean it's an acclaimed franchise. Mm-hm. Listen, if you like. If you like anything remotely good in gaming just go get Persona Q. That's, that's Wow that is a bold statement. Continue, go to the next one. Next we have The Imitation Game is in theaters. This is this is, I'm actually really interested in this. It's got the Batch. Oh, OK yeah. The Batch stars. As Turing. He's playing Turing which is like the grandfather of modern computing. I mean it's like this guy is the guy. So this is like sort of his kind of experience during the war and the code cracking and all that stuff. OK. This sounds pretty awesome. Very, very good. He's getting a lot of award show buzz for this role, for his performance as. Alan Turing. So highly recommended, and obviously you noticed, you've noticed Tywin Lannister is in this movie. So also I would go with it just for that. No big deal, the guy's a great actor. Yeah. [CROSSTALK] Just great actors. okay. Normally we do not jump on the hype train for trailers. However. Hold on. Yeah, get your boots ready, cuz we're gonna get on the hype train for a second. We're gonna talk about some huge trailers that are dropping this week. Surprises. Number one, Star Wars, the Force Awakens. Oh, who cares? The force had its, [LAUGH] the force woke up, it had its coffee, it's ready to show you its teaser. It's ready for its morning run. So. Which is, I'm very excited about. So, but it's not out. Not yet. So, here is the thing. There are only a select number of cities showing this movie. And J.J. Abrahams posted this picture and said a tiny peek at what we're working on. Select theaters across the country, hope you enjoy it. Have a most excellent Thanksgiving. Best J.J. Got a little type writer on their. And 88 seconds apparently because it says 88 seconds on the bottom. But here's the catch, okay? So I'm gonna pull up the list of cities that you can see this in. I think it's like six or nine cities. In the United States. Sorry everyone else, right? And hopefully, but here's what I'm hoping, is that they'll do the same thing, like maybe on Monday they'll release the trailer to the Internet at large. They have to, right? They're only going to launch it on Saturday. My guess is their gonna. You think the whole trailer? Yes, because some idiot, who I'm probably gonna watch the video. You, yeah. Is gonna record it like. And put it online, yeah, of course. Put it online, and they're gonna be like, nah, we just gotta put it up. Just like they did with the avengers two trailer. But, anyway. Of course. Okay, no, I agree with that. Okay, so, I have like, but the thing is. Is they, they did this before with for phantom menace, and people were buying tickets to a bug's life, and I forget what the other movie was, but. They put a teaser trailer in front of him and people were so jacked about seeing a Star Wars movie again that people would buy tickets to the movie to like A Bug's Life, walk in, watch the trailer and just leave. And not get their money back? No, and then they would just leave. So, okay. Trailer's going to play before movies at 30 theaters. Starting this Friday and continuing through the weekend. Here's, here's the list/ The whole list? I'll give it to you Yeah You got Los Angeles, Irvine, San Fran, San Jose, San Diego, Toronto, Vancouver, So Canadian's [CROSSTALK] are gonna get in on this, Denver, Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, Kansas City, New York, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Nashville, Knoxville, Dallas, Houston, Austin, [UNKNOWN], Seattle, Milwaukee, Phoenix. So major US cities. Major US cities. And no, nothing for anyone who lives outside of the US. No. Sorry. All right, let's go to the trailer. But it'll show up on the internet. And speaking of showing up on the internet, we were actually expecting the Jurassic World trailer to drop on Thursday. On Thanksgiving. And it was supposed to drop on Thanksgiving but they released it a couple days early, which is awesome. I would love to know why, but we don't know that. But I'm assuming because they were heading off a Marvel situation where the Age of Ultron trailer dropped early. So, we're not gonna show you too much of it, just in case you don't wanna be spoiled. Some people don't like to watch trailers. This is all like act one separate, obviously looks like the park is open. They were not kidding in the, the teaser, the park is, in fact, open for people to visit now. Mm-hm And Chris Pratt stars in this, it looks really interesting. Obviously, it takes place, you were saying, twenty years in the future from the first Jurassic Park? Yeah, twenty, twenty years in the future. [COUGH] Basically the, the. This is my favorite part right here. Yeah, the [INAUDIBLE] this is a [INAUDIBLE]. Which is, they've long wanted to put one in the Jurassic Park. Nom. Yeah, the Tylosaurus is bad. I love it. so, basically, Isla Nublar, the original island, has been rejuvenated Transformed! as a, yeah, as a resort, rather than just an amusement park, and so now people are going again. Higher level technology and unfortunately a new type of dinosaur. And things go totally wrong. Wait no they don't. This one everyone's totally cool. Oh it's totally kosher. Okay. Everything's fine. Everybody just has a good time. They go home. They're sleepy. [CROSSTALK] They go and take a nap. No it doesn't look like that in the trailer. Yeah, no it doesn't. It looks like they're running from dinos. Okay, Logan, wait. [CROSSTALK] We watched the whole trailer! We gave away a bunch of stuff. Sorry, whoever, like. You knew what was going to happen in a Jurassic Park movie. That's true. Thing's go wrong. Yep. I have to say, I mentioned this on Twitter. The, the plot of that movie seems to be my entire life experience playing Dinopark Tycoon as a kid. On DOS. What's Dino Park Tycoon? Okay, first of all, this should have been your greatest game of all time. I'm very interested, yes. It should have been on your list. It was like, Theme Park Tycoon. But it was, it predated that even. Or it was released around the same time. Where you had a dinosaur park. And you built up your dinosaur park, and you could breed dinosaurs. You could, you had to hatch eggs, you had a little hatchery. You could you coud do all kinds of stuff. You set up your dino park. And, but here was the crazy thing. And this is why it reminds me of this, is that I used to, you had to choose what type of fences, what type of enclosures your dinosaurs were behind. So like if you had a triceratops, which I know doesn't exist anymore. We were aware that triceratops are not actually a thing now. You would be, you would, it would say, it's pretty docile, include behind like, you know, wood fence, whatever, like you know, the glass, whatever. But then like, for the higher, the dangerous carnivores, you'd wanna put them behind like electrified fences. But you could choose not to if you didn't have enough money. So I would always put my T-rex's behind like chicken wire and then they would get out, but I always played it as if. I was feeding the dinosaurs and giving them recreation. I was being a really good park owner because I was taking care of the dinosaurs. You're being like PETA? By giving them. By giving them humans to eat. Like it seem and it but and then it was fun also they had recreations. They could chase after the humans. They could eat them. It's a really nice thing to do. I don't think you're on the right side. You're welcome dinosaurs. You're not on the right side. You're welcome. I'm never on the right side. I always play games really weird. Fallout 3, cleaning up the apocalypse. One can at a time, like I'm the, I'm the weirdo who's like, got the little stick. The apocalypse [INAUDIBLE]. And I'm like, putting things into my bag, like cleaning up all the apocalypse. Stinking kids [INAUDIBLE] leaving a mess everywhere. Put these, I gotta recycle these new cocolas, where can I do that? All right. Well, That's how I play open world games. It's terrible. I think we should have you write the Jurassic, the next Jurassic World movie. I think I already did. I mean, obviously they took all of my play throughs and just mashed them into a movie. By the way, I have a theory that they're gonna make two more, Jurassic park movies after this. You're probably right. Not with Chris Pratt, though. They're not gonna be able to afford him anymore. No, he's gonna be too expensive. Although if Jurassic Park World, Jurassic World is really, really huge, they'll pay him. Well, it'd be big payoff for him, for sure. People are going for the, you know what, people were excited about the dinosaurs [INAUDIBLE] Chris Pratt as much as I thought. That's true, but we didn't see him a lot in the trailer. Volunteer myself as a living petri dish to cure disease. Again, a do-gooder. Why are all these people such good human, you said be good humans at the end of the. I say be good humans and you guys are listening. But I, they're being better than good. Better, you're being great humans. All right You're being great humans. Human. They're human. I'm, I'm really, I'm really impressed. You said you wanted to fly around. I want to fly around. And I said I wanted an iPhone in my brain. Like, we are not good humans. And then I immediately drove to the airport and flew to Florida to visit family. We went onto this pier that night and I just had to take these two photos because they show you can have beauty in any place that are. Which is true. You obviously went from snow to flow. It was super cool. Big fan of the show. Hope this gets onto the show. PS this is taken on my iPhone 5s. So there you go. I don't know where the first one was taken. Yeah. I'm not sure.
