Hey guys, we're here at the NASA booth at CES and we're about to show you how they make some magic.
Now when you think of rover you think of that 2,000 pound machine that explores the surface of Mars, but it actually takes an army of mini rovers to really explore every crevice.
This one that we're seeing here it's call the drop And it's meant to go up pretty much any kind of rough surface in Mars.
And it's got these little anchors over here that are helping it climb up the wall.
The drop is designed so that the wheels can be interchanged with other materials.
This is an electrostatic anchor using the Gecko Grip technology that NASA has created.
So what it really does is, Allows it to go up a smooth surface.
So it has a current going through it that adapts to different types of smooth surfaces.
And it also has this gecko like grip.
And these two robots over here are the puffers.
And they're designed to be able to fold, so they can access crevices in the surface.
So now here's a demo of how it really folds And all the components are on this fabric.
And NASA's also investing in the next generation of engineers with this open source rover.
It's made of parts that pretty much anybody can get.
And it's meant so that high schoolers can start creating different add-ons or start automating certain parts of this rover.
And who knows, maybe in the future we'll We'll see them implemented in the actual rover that goes to check out the surface of Mars.
