Storage
Hey, guys. Dong Ngo here and today I'll talk about sex. No, I lie but now that I have your attention I'll steer that to something else that's less interesting but will for sure last you much longer than 5 minutes, the all-new ESD200 Portable Solid-State Drive from Transcend here. Now this drive is a portable external drive, external because it connects to a computer using a cable right here. This is a standard USB cable. This cable come with 2 ends, A and B, both are male. Now first use this B male end here of the cable and insert it into this micro female USB 3.0 slot right here on the drive just like that, okay? And the other end which is the A male end you insert that into, guess what, the female A port on the computer, and then the 2 become 1. The drive becomes the storage of the computer. Now I know on a side of the computer or on the back there's a lot of holes and slots and ports, but don't worry. USB is a standard and that means you cannot insert this into a wrong slot. No matter how hard you try they just will not fit. It's foolproof really as long as you know how to align it in the right direction. The drive here supports USB 3.0, very fast. It also works with USB 2.0. The 2 standards share the same port size. The drive is also bus-powered meaning this cable here can transfer data and also draw juice from the host computer to power the drive. That plus the fact that it's really compact make it a truly portable storage solution. Now the reason it is so compact because on the inside it uses a new 1.8-inch drive. That is much smaller than this regular 2.5-inch drive right here. And the fact that the drive on the inside is a solid-state drive means the Transcend here is very fast. In my testing it offers up to 145 megabyte per second for writing and up to 213 megabytes per second for reading. Now to put that in perspective you can transfer a CD worth of data in less than 4 seconds, really fast indeed. So what's the catch? Well, the drive here is rather limited in terms of storage space and is pricey a little bit costing some $160 for 128 gigabytes or almost $300 for 256 gigabytes. But it's still worth it in my opinion though especially when considering it comes with this pouch right here for you to use it on the go. For more on the drive, make sure you check out the full review at CNET.com and if you're feeling sexy right now and you will tell me that I have good body, feel free to go ahead and do that via Twitter, Facebook, or Google+. I will not hold that against you and that's because I'm Dong Ngo and this has been the First Look at the ESD200 Portable Solid-State Drive from Transcend.
