Speaker 1: The pixel six pro is the best phone Google has ever made. And one of the best phones you can buy right now, let's take a closer look
Speaker 1: With strong performance, a unique design, some great software editions and a superb camera. Pixel six pro has got everything you'd expect from a flagship phone in 2021. [00:00:30] So let's start with its all glass and metal design. Now I didn't love the pixel fives. Look, I found that match rubberized back gave it quite a cheap feel, but the pixel six pro worlds apart the glass on both the front and back curves, gently at the edges to meet that 100% recycled Ali minion frame, it makes it not only look premium, but it feels like a really high end phone when you hold it in your hand, it is big though packing in a 6.7 inch display, [00:01:00] which will make it a, a bit more cumbersome to hold than smaller phones like the pixel five or indeed the smaller pixel six. The display itself is pin sharp though.
Speaker 1: Thanks to its 31 20 by 1440 pixel resolution. It's bright too with vibrant colors that do justice to those various colorful match, three games or colorful TV shows like Netflix's world dominating squid game. The phone is IP 68 rated, meaning that it can withstand being in a meter of water [00:01:30] for up to 30 minutes. No, that does not mean you can take it swimming, but it does mean that it should be able to withstand having the odd pin of beer accidentally thrown over it. An interesting design choice is this large camera bar, which stretches along the back that protrudes from the phone by about three millimeters. So it doesn't quite sit flat when you put it on a table. I actually like the look of the phone though, and I definitely think it stands out well against its competition. One tip though, probably get the sort of sunny orange color.
Speaker 1: And it [00:02:00] does just look a lot more cheerful than the black and option. There's no fingerprint scanner on the back instead that has been built into the display and I found it to work quickly and accurately most of the time. Now there's no face unlock ability on the phone, but with so many of us still wearing masks because of COVID having a fingerprint scanner is arguably a little bit more useful at the moment. Now let's talk about those CA cameras, that big bar on the back hide three cameras. There is a 12 megapixel ultra wide camera, [00:02:30] a 48 megapixel telephoto camera that offers four times optical zoom and a 50 megapixel main camera, which Google has equipped with a much larger image sensor. Now the cameras on the pixel range have always been excellent and the pixel pro is no exception. Images from that main camera are stunning.
Speaker 1: They're vibrant, they're packed with detail and there's an amazing balance of exposure with bright skies being kept under control with shadow areas, still being clearly visible. The super wide lens [00:03:00] is just as vibrant, but slightly less detailed. The four times optical zoom is amazing as well, packing in tons of detail. Thanks to that high resolution sensor. I personally think that a four time zoom is a great zoom level to have on a phone. As it allows you to get some amazing compositions that would see simply be out of range of lesser zooms. It's a zoom level that I really think I would use a lot on my travels and I've already taken quite a few photos at that four time zoom, which I am really, really [00:03:30] pleased with from an artistic perspective. Google has thrown in some extra software additions as well, including a handy tool which automatically removes people from your back ground.
Speaker 1: Then there's a long exposure mode, which creates those dreamy blurred water scapes and the night scape mode, which allows the phone to take excellent shots in the dark. As a professional photographer. I am genuinely impressed with the camera abilities of the pixel six pro. And there's no question that it is one of the best cameras that you can currently get on a, any phone [00:04:00] video. Quality is superb as well with excellent dynamic range, spot on image stabilization and tons of detail. Thanks to its maximum 4k resolution at the heart of the phone is Google's first homemade processor, which it calls tensor. It's a significant move for Google to be creating its own processor for its phones. And it shows a real commitment to staying in this game. Cause after all, you don't go to all that effort to make your own Silicon [00:04:30] just as a one-off experiment, but you can completely forget about the processor once it's in your hand, because this phone functions just like any other Android phone it's NiPy to navigate around the Android 12 interface, demanding games like asphalt nine legends or call of duty mobile play perfectly well while tasks like photo editing or video streaming are handled just as well as you would expect from any other flagship phone.
Speaker 1: Right now, benchmark tests do show that the tensor chip is not setting a new benchmark [00:05:00] for high performance in phones, but it doesn't need to most phones already pack so much more power than any of us are likely to use on a day to day basis. The 10 to processor is built more towards machine learning, AI and speech recognition. And a lot of the real benefits of having this chip will come over time. As Google finds more ways to take advantage of it, own hardware. The pixel six pro is among the first phones to come running the brand new Android 12. It's my favorite version of Android so [00:05:30] far, and it offers a neat and uncluttered interface that even Android beginners will not struggle to get to grips with a neat feature that for now is exclusive to the new pixels is the ability to create custom themes for the phone based on whatever image you've set as your background.
Speaker 1: So when you choose a new wallpaper, the phone will automatically pick out the dominant colors and use those to customize the look of the rest of the interface. It's a nice bit of Fern, but arguably should not be the main reason you choose this phone. [00:06:00] Security has been given a particular push on both the hardware and software side. The tensor processor apparently allows for much better on device security while Android 12 offers a lot more fine grain control over your privacy settings. That includes a dashboard which lets you see very easily apps have used what information recently. And there's also handy buttons in the poll down notification bar, which allow you to turn off systemwide access to the camera and the microphone just in case you're worried about people listening in [00:06:30] Google has also promised that the pixel six and six pro will get security updates for five years.
Speaker 1: That means that these phones will be safer to use for longer. Lots of older phones are perfectly usable from a hardware perspective, but if they don't have the latest security updates on board, then they are susceptible to all kinds of nasty hacking and are therefore not safe to use from both a cost and environmental perspective. Being able to keep using our phones safer for longer is only a good thing. The 5,003 [00:07:00] milliamp hour battery should keep you going for a full day of mixed use. But as with all phones, you can help that along by doing things like turning off your wifi, your GPS, keeping your screen brightness down and avoiding demanding tasks like gaming until you're within dashing distance of a plug socket. Overall, I really like this phone. It's got the looks, the power and the camera, and it comes at a price that sensibly undercuts its main rivals Samsung's galaxy S 21 ultra does have some neat extra [00:07:30] camera editions, but it comes at a much higher price.
Speaker 1: And I vastly prefer the neat, simple Android 12 interface on the pixel six pro the then there's a smaller pixel six, which comes at an even lower price, but it's smaller. It has some cut down specs and it loses that four times tele photo zoom. So if you're looking for the best, all round Android experience you can get right now, you should absolutely be looking towards the Google pixel six pro what do you think to Google's latest flagship?
