Tesla's latest missed deadlines
As a journalist, I'm used to hitting hard an fast deadlines.
You know who's not used to deadlines?
Elon Musk?
I mean, this guy couldn't hit a timeline at the life of his weirdo Bureau named Kid depended on it, delayed, delayed, delayed.
That is the name of the game over at Tesla.
So let's take a look at promises made an maybe not so much kept over at old Iron Man's house.
First up, let's talk about the Roadster.
Elon announced it in November of 2017.
We were supposed to see it this year.
And you guys I get it.
2020 has been a shitshow just all around, but this is the Tesla it was most looking forward to.
And now I'm not going to see it until 2022.
I mean come on, lets promises a zero to 60 time of 19.
seconds, a 200 kWh battery should deliver 620 miles of range and it has a top speed of over 250 miles an hour.
I want it now but it looks like the closest I'm going to get to a Roadster is the one that's like up in space on its second orbit around the sun or whatever the hell it is.
And that was the old one.
Of course you can still put down a reservation for a roadster.
It's a mere 50000$, on a 200000$, base price.
Or you can go all in an give Elon 250000$, all at once and that will get you one of the 1000 founder series.
So looks like I'm not going to get a Roadster anytime soon.
And what about that much lauded semitruck-?
Musk announced it at the same time as the Roadster November of 2017, and we were going to see it in 2019 that we're going to see it in 2020, and again, I know this year not very good, but now we're not going to see it until 2021.
Now, frankly, I'd be a little ****** of- if I was a company like Walmart, which started ordering trucks right away and they're currently on the hook for 130 of 'em or FedEx, which started ordering in 2018.
And it's easy to see why companies would want an electric semi truck right now.
500 miles of range.
It can climb a 5% grade at a steady 60 miles an hour, so it's safer for the driver and the other vehicles around it.
Plus it can get 400 miles of charge in just 30 minutes on a mega charger.
Not super Mega Semi truck will cost between 150000, and 180000$, and the deposit is a mere 20000$,.
And of course, one of the cyber truck Musk announced it in November of 2019 and it's not delayed yet.
But he has kind of messed around with the timeline for saying that the single motor rear wheel drive vehicle would be available in 2021 with the more expensive trimotor.
All wheel drive vehicle coming on line in late 2022.
But now if you look at the reservation page that has actually flipped with the least expensive cyber truck being available last, if you want one now or when it comes on line you're going to have to go for the more expensive one.
Because I'm not here to debate how this cybershark looks, it's ugly, but the specs are dope, right?
Zero to 60 in three seconds.
500 plus miles of range, 3500 pounds of payload capacity and it can to 14000, pounds.
This y'all is a truck.
Plus you can get an optional all electric ATV that you can just like drive up into the bed and charge it from right there.
It's pretty cool.
The cyber truck will be about 40000$, with a single motor version 50 grand for the dual motor version and 70 grand for the Tippy top of Tri Motor.
Now you can reserve one for just 100$, and that's refundable.
And there's reports out there saying that Tesla has over 650000, reservations.
The 65000000$,, for a vehicle that doesn't even exist yet.
I mean, send me 100$.
I will never return it, and at the end I will have a really nice Miata and probably more than one.
And you guys, I'm not here to dog on Tesla, I really like them.
I love that Tesla pushes the envelope of design and technology.
I just wish that it were a little bit better at hitting deadlines.
