Tesla Model S misses the mark in new crash test
Tesla misses the mark, in a new crash test.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, gave the Tesla model S and acceptable rating, when it comes to a particular kind of crash.
In the crash, the front side corner of the vehicle, hits a barrier.
This is meant to replicate the impact of hitting another vehicle or an object, like a tree.
The IIHS said the model as a seatbelt allowed the crash test dummy's head to smack the steering wheel through the airbag at high acceleration.
The IIHS also said the front wheel shattered during the crash and the brake rotor and assembly penetrated the occupant compartment.
This crash is called the small overlap front test and is relatively new.
The model S received the highest possible rating in every other test in the crash worthiness category.
Tesla was not to pleased with this news and said, "IIHS and dozens of other private industry groups around the world Have methods and motivations that suit their own subjective purposes.
Tesla also says that the vehicle tests by the U.S. government are the most objective and accurate.
Coincidentally, those tests found the Model S and Model X to be the two cars with the lowest probability of injury of any cars it has ever tested.
