>> I'm Donald Bell, senior editor for digital audio and MP3 and today we are taking a first look at the Sony NWS705F. It's a Sony Walkman MP3 player, the big deal about this MP3 player is that it has active noise cancellation built into the player itself. Part of that is little microphones that are built into the sides of the earphones that come with this player and the active noise cancellation circuitry, which is built into the player itself. The only downside to this combination is that if you lose the earphones, you are kind of hosed as far as the noise cancellation goes. Other cool things about this player, it's built really well, there is metal all around the trim of the MP3 player, it's got a really good feel on it, it feels really classy. It's got this pretty unique shuttle control here for skipping between songs, kind of use the little control to go up and down and skip between songs and then if you pull the control out, you are skipping between albums. It's a lot easier than going through a menu. Another great feature about this player is battery life, it promises 50 hours of battery life in one charge and that's even with the active noise cancellation service tree switched on. Another cool feature on the Sony Walkman player is a intelligent shuffle feature, where instead of just randomly shuffling all the songs around, you can shuffle specifically to the year songs were released. so there is a time travel function in here where if you use the time travel shuffle it will pick a year say like 1999 and I'll find all the songs on your player that were released in 1999. The Sony Walkman NWS705F is around one hundred and ninety nine dollars so it's in direct competition with the Apple iPod nano. The benefits of the Walkman player is that out of the box you get a really great set of ear buds, you get the active noise cancellation, you get an FM radio which you don't get with the iPod nano, it definitely gives you it's a brighter screen and it gives you the iTunes software. The Sony sonic space software does not really hold up to the ease and convenience of iTunes as far as a music management application. This is a great player, the active noise cancellations a big deal, the battery life on this is a really big deal. So this is Donald Bell and we just took a first look at the Sony Walkman NWS705F.
